I gave my kids (both feline) some turkey breast a co-worker gave me leftover from Thanksgiving. (It had been frozen, so it's not rotten.) They loved it.
Actually, I talked to a native of Ireland over the holidays, and he said some of the older folks remembered getting coal or peat, not because they were bad, but because there was no money for anything else. It was then used as heating fuel.
