erroneous room charges warning

Again I must warn everyone to scrupulously check your credit card bills for
erroneous room charges at casinos. It is so commonplace at Caesars Las Vegas
that I sometimes wonder if it is intentional, rather than just the result of
really really bad billing. Usually the minibar is the problem, because the
maid may not check this daily and you get billed for someone else's food
consumption, or sometimes if you just open the door of the minibar.

But that is not always the case. I just got docked for $8.24 for a room
service tip, for the day after I checked out! Fortunately to avoid errors I
never charge tips to the room, never use the minibar, and try to avoid charging
if at all possible, so I am usually able to catch these errors.

Usually the errors are small, so you might overlook a $8-12 charge. Even if
you check out and they say you have a zero balance, you can later get
charges on your credit card.

If you find errors, immediately contact the casino and they normally will
remove them. If necessary, contact the credit card company and dispute the
charges.

The worst error I had was from Harrah's New Orleans - $500 for a stereo
system that was missing from the room! I hadn't even noticed it was there!
(They swiftly removed the charge).

These errors are annoying, time wasting, and all too frequent. To avoid
them, always use a credit card, always check your monthly credit card bill, and
dispute any errors.

I wish there was a higher authority to complain to!
