End of an era

Made a trek to KC last weekend to celebrate the new year. Got a letter
in the mail last week informing me that George Gilmore is leaving
Ameristar KC as of January 7 to go back to his hometown of Boise, ID
and work at Cactus Pete's in Jackpot, NV until his retirement.

George is a one of a kind host and a fine gentleman. He has always
been a gracious person and incidently is a marathon runner like
myself. There are not many like him around anymore in this age of
change. I and many others I am certain will miss him a lot. On the
positive side, it gives me another excuse to return to Nevada in
another venue at some point in the future.

With the inventory changes and downgrades of paytables and cash back
there is not much reason to visit Ameristar KC anymore at this time.

I think there will be some changes coming down the pike for Ameristar
but who know if they will be for the better. Here is an excerpt from
On Line Casino News:

"Ameristar Casinos, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASCA) is saddened to announce the
death of Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and majority shareholder
Craig H. Neilsen. Neilsen passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on
November 19 at his home in Las Vegas. He is survived by his son Ray
and stepdaughters Jaime and Amanda.

Mr. Neilsen's estate plan provides for his stock in Ameristar to be
transferred to his private foundation, The Craig H. Neilsen
Foundation, which is primarily focused on spinal cord injury research
and treatment. "

According to an article in the Kansas City Star a few days ago, the
stock owned by Mr Neilsen and transferred to his private non-profit
foundation will be a problem. IRS rules (according to the article)
limit non-profit organizations ownership of profit making enterprises
or in this case controlling interest. They speculated the foundation
will have to sell off Ameristar stock.

As a side note, we visited the casino today and old Lucky Rick hit a
progressive $1 VP machine for $5143, my largest jackpot ever. <<<<big

Congratulations Rick! Now maybe you can make an offer to Ameristar for their KC casino! hehe If your bid is accepted, what would be your first changes you'd make?
