EMAIL FROM CASINOS TO PATRONS

Ted's right about the email thing. One of the things
some web developers and marketing folks tend to do is
over-estimate the capability of the computer at the
other end of the email. They are drawn to the latest
and greatest technology without regard to how many of
their customers use it. This isn't a knock on
marketers, they are doing what they need to do to get
attention to the ad. But, sometimes what you do in
print or in other media doesn't translate perfectly to
a web-based campaign.

One thing I've learned in the web business about email
campaigns - keep it simple! A plain-text HTML with
links to a special page on your site will get better
response - and you can track the response rate much
more accuately because only people who are truly
interested will click on the link. Also, the size of
some of these graphics and Flash-filled emails kills
the person on a dial-up connection.

Wait a minute! What am I doing? I just gave away
about 500 bucks worth of consulting fees here ...

I will give another $500. If on my phone modem, the page is not
readable in about 15 seconds, then I just hit the delete button.
Some of the best looking (but usually hardest to find anything)
pages take forever to download. I it apparent that the page
was "sold" using either a high speed connection or right from hard
drive. My pet peeve is a link on the home page which takes me to a
link on the next page which takes me to a link on the next page and
etc until you finally bore down to the material you wanted. This
just shows a lack of organization on the part of the author as far
as I am concerned.

Sorry took so much space, but you hit on on of my favorite dislikes
about the net.

My pet peeve is when I reply to an email promotion,
there never is a response. Out here in the Midwest, to
get the best airfare, you need a two week time period.
The casino offers from Reno or LV or AC are usually
for the next few days or the next week.

How much would it cost them to REPLY to an email
response to their solicitation.
