Re Sports Bar promo, 1st order of business when I land is to check
slot
booth & ask questions which I did but mixed it up with River Bar &
didn't see
anything special. One of the employees who knew me wised me up
about where &
what & I was able to hit the ground running after checking in.
Played it when it
was at $5400+ (7%). Even at that level, it was never close to
being full as
many seats were still open.
I posted this promotion on VPfree Laughlin website on October 22 when
I found out about the added $2,000 daily royal money. You ought to
come by and check it out before your next trip to Laughlin.

The promotion was only for October 16th through the 31st.
My policy is to not post real attractive plays like this as it will
be
burned out & then there might be other repercussions such as
lowering of pay
tables which hurts the occasional visitor in the long run.
Apparently the wise
guys that were playing it were not phoning in for help as I didn't
see many new
people coming in up to the time it was hit.
I agree with the "Sunshine Policy" of this board, and as such I
posted this attractive play. I have benefited more than I have given,
and if I see more attractive plays such as this, I will post them
again. Obviously my posting of this play did not kill the promotion,
as you pointed out there were still plenty of seats available.
Why did the Edgewater run this promotion? They wanted more action in
the sportsbar and wanted to introduce players to this new area of the
Edgewater. This promotion was not a secret at all. I saw it
advertised in the local paper, and it was mentioned on the local
channel 2 TV station as: "attention all serious video poker players".
This promotion was geared to the local player, as there was nothing
mentioned on the web page of the Edgewater. Those out of town players
like us could only hope to time our visit with a good promotion. I
doubt very seriously that either you or I would drive the 500 miles
to take advantage of such a promotion.
What would happen if they ran this promotion, and they got no
significant increase in play? The answer is most likely they would
not try it again. I did give them much more play, and I know Correna
and several others also did the same because of the posting. Perhaps
we helped out in saving such a play for future use? Fuel for thought.>>>
Thanks for advice on checking VPFree Laughlin. I'm usually several days
behind (as I am now) & the thought of adding another site to check is daunting as
it's tough to keep up with current material. But may try it out. Even though
I didn't know about the new sports bar promo when I arrived, my work habits
would have ferreted it out eventually.
Re Sunshine Policy, I can understand why it exists. When you receive all
this information, it would require the wisdom of Solomon to determine what
should be posted & what should not. Some interpret the policy as saying you need
to give up everything you know. I see it as saying that anything we contribute
will be posted & choose to exercise the right to not contribute certain
information.
My reluctance stems from instances where word spread about good
plays/promotions which led to dominance by pros/advantage players & permanent, general
lowering of paytables. To name just a few, Tuscany, Imperial Palace, Casino
Montelago & my former favorite, Hard Rock. Can't blame posting for all of this
but it does share some of the blame.
You're right that nobody would go 500 miles for a quarter play but it's
attractive enough for quarter pros to go 90 miles from Las Vegas as the daily
addition of $2000 made it attractive enough to stick around.
I think the primary reason for the promotion is due to the mandatory
redistribution of a progressive that was removed elsewhere. This same situation
occurred at the Reno Hilton a few years ago where $100,000 from a slot was
redistributed among vp machines and the new Garage area got some of it. At
edgewater, we were lucky that it coincided with the opening of the new sports bar as
it could have just as easily appeared on the keno progressives which Gold
River did several years ago.
As for saving the play for the future, the play is gone.
