Don't stay at the hotel at the Majestic Star and don't

Actually the MS hotel has been renovated and is now every bit as nice as an old Days Inn 
The buffet has been so bad in the past that I haven't tried it in months.
The steak house at MS is pretty good. There is a halfway decent deli on the third floor next to the poker room too, for quick and easy.
Resorts has a pretty decent hotel. The surrounding area is not rampant with hotel chains. Sounded like you were planning to stay with friends anyway.
