Dumbest play you've witnessed that (DIDN'T) work?

Maybe this is really a dumb play that did work.

This happened before TITO, at the Santa Fe in Las Vegas.

A guy sat down at a $1 VP machine, with a tray of dollar tokens. and started to drop them
into it. A lady sitting next to him said, " Mister I wouldn't play that machine, some one just
hit a royal on it."

He stopped after putting in only 3 tokens and hit the "deal" button since he was going to
take her advice and change machines.

Yep, he was dealt a RF and gave the lady a look that could kill, and muttered something
regarding the lady's having a dog in her family tree.

Obviously neither of them was familiar with the RNG. I really think he should have thanked
her since he did get $750, and in the time it would have taken for him to put in two more
tokens the RNG would have generated hundreds of different hands, and the odds of his
getting dealt a RF were about 40,000/1.

I believe the RNG stops the instant the first coin is dropped. So he
would have gotten a $4,000 RF.

I believe both statements are true. From the information I've read, the
older machines stopped the RNG as soon as bet one is pushed. On the
newer machines it does not stop until deal (or the last bet one) is
pressed.

Since these sounded like older coin operated machines I suspect the RF
would have been there.

I would have thought it would stop on hitting deal. Suppose I put 25
coins in the machine, why would it stop on the first coin?

Magnum.
