Subject: XVP: Getting to vegas by carThe wife and I want to get to our favorite city and are thinking of driving.
Problem is, we live in San Jose, CA area and have never done it.
I hear it takes like 9 or 10 UNGODLY hours.Does anyone have some info about this drive??? Or maybe of a hotel or two
we could stay
over half way between to get some sleep on the way to and from vegas. We've gotten SO SO SO many free rooms that we're dying to use but don't want
to waste $400 on tickets when we could put that through the VP MACHINES !!!
AND HIT ROYALS FOR XMAS...
I do this drive often from Salinas & mix it up with flights from San Jose
when I'm staying in one place in LV. It's about 490 miles for me & 8 - 9 hrs
of driving. Don't have halfway point to suggest unless you want to do a
pilgrimage to Buck Owens place on Buck Owens Drive in Bakersfield off of 99.
As my wife occasionally goes with me, we split the driving.
I think the best route for you is 101 - 152 - 5 - 46 - 99 - 58 - 15. I try to
drive mostly at night to avoid heavy traffic.
The drive is boring with not much reason to stop unless you want to visit
indian casinos along the way (not many & not recommended).
The biggest difference in the bearability of the drive has been the addition
of XM satellite radio which allows me to listen to the same channel all the
way to & from LV. Recently listened to 2 of the Angels-Giants games on ESPN
radio & planned my drives around the game times. XM has 100 channels & their
web site is:
