Drive to Reno from Vegas?? Is it worth it??

Hi, Does anyone have any recommendations as to whether I should take a trip from Vegas to Reno for the weekend??

I have 13 days in Vegas (longest time ever) and I could drive to Reno, I have never been there.... I live in the East.

Is it a place I should see or is it a big nothing?? Is the drive there nice? Anything to see on the way???

Any recommendations as to where to stay/play?? I was looking at the Hilton or Atlantis there .

This trip to Vegas will be the first major VP trip (always played blackjack, slots and craps) so I appreciate all the insights I have received from many of you in the short time I have been a member of this group.

Its a long boring drive and you'll kill 3/4 of a day with round trip
driving. Better to spend the $150 RT easy flight from Vegas to Reno. Reno
has an airport shuttle bus system, so that you dont really need to rent a
car. Hilton is nice but isolated. Downtown may be your best option - Silver
Legacy or El Dorado your best bets. You'll want to take a bus/cab to
Peppermill/Atlantis. You'll find Reno to have better VP than Vegas, but
craps not as good as glitter gulch. Reno is great - have fun!

best wishes...Tom

It's a pretty long drive and, I'd say, not worth taking time away from Las Vegas.

I live in Sacramento, so going to Reno is the best alternative to the poor pay
schedules at the Indian casinos nearby. Given the choice, I'd rather be in Vegas!
There's plenty to see and do there to fill your time without the long side trip.

If, however, you do decide to go, you might consider staying at Boomtown (just
outside Reno in Verdi). They have terrific 10/7 DB in $1 denominations and up and
will send you room comps forever after you've played there once.

Have a great trip!

Fly one of the cheap puddle jumpers to Reno. Play at the Peppermill or the
Silver Legacy. Eat at the steakhouse in the Silver Legacy.

Then drive 45 minutes from Reno to Stateline, NV, and go see Lake Tahoe.
Have breakfast at the Lakeside Inn, or better yet, at the "Fox and the
Hound" on Incline Drive, take a drive around the lake (takes about 4 hours),
and see the Cal Neva. Dine at the Ivy Room at Harvey's.

Play at Harvey's, Horizon's, or Ceasar's.

Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and it's absolutely
worth the trip.

If you plan on driving around Lake Tahoe during the winter months, I'd
suggest renting a four wheel drive vehicle.

If you have a tolerance for cold, then take a 1/2 day and go fishing.
Winter is the best time for Mackinaw trout.

How about an adventure for a day or two to Laughlin instead?
Laughlin will be 10 degrees warmer than Vegas. My favorite way to go
is over the dam one way via Kingman and thru Searchlight the other
way.

Laughlin has plenty of VP to play. You can also play single deck BJ
and cheap Craps at fun tables.

I second the motion for Laughlin. The VP is much better in Laughlin
than Reno. I am going to Reno on Wednesday, but that is only because
I live so close. This is the wrong time of the year to drive to Reno.
The roads can be icy, and it is really cold in Reno.

Just don't do it the way I did in August of 1984: In a van with no air
conditioning.

A couple of people have posted that the drive is "not all that interesting".
Yes, and the Titanic had a "water accumulation problem".

Take the shuttle flight.

All of you are great. Really saved me a long kinda boring trip it seems. Maybe I'll see Reno in conjunction with another trip one day. I have been to Tahoe, it is wonderful.

I will stay in LV carrying around the printout of the Casino Database from the group and trying to find the machines in the casinos on the list. Also trying to use the LVA coupons I will get when I join there and of course my VP strategy cards. The guy at the gambling store at the airport sells them. I assume they are from Huntington Press and they are OK??

Maybe I will get lucky and be in LV for the VP lunch in January and meet some of you all.
