Downtown Deuces at El Cortez

Someone has asked me about where to find a strategy for that game, He says it is not on VP for Winners? Is that right??? If so, where can I direct him?

Any program that allows you to change the pay schedule can do Downtown Deuces. There aren't any extra paylines to worry about.

Speaking of deuces...

I think my question pertains to all DW variations. If dealt a wild royal, does one sacrifice the 125-credit "bird-in-hand" and draw to the RF4? I haven't found a strategy that addresses my question.

Thanks.

Assuming that you are talking about having 1 deuce. You would not, unless it was a progressive royal that was getting around $5,300.

The exact number of coins in the royal to make the break depends on the exact make-up of the 4-card royal, what the flush pays, and whether you are playing max-EV or minimum risk strategy. But 5300 coins is a good par number.

Also, under the Kelly system, you'd need a fairly hefty bankroll before you'd consider breaking a pat wild royal for a draw at a natural royal.

Roughly:

EV of one card Natural Royal draw - Variance/Bankroll/2 > Pat Wild Royal

Good point. E.g., a wild royal KQJT2 has more potential played as an RF4 (sans the 2) than does a wild royal headed by the Ace because it (the KQJT2 hand) also is an SF4.

Thank you (and the others) for all the comments. Is this a great forum or what?

Yes. Thanks.

One more comment: If it were tournament play, I would seriously consider holding the RF4 over the wild royal. Might even be tempted to hold 222 if dealt a three-deuce wild royal!

In a tournament I wouldn't hesitate for a second to make those two moves. I'd also break up 4 of a kind to go for 4 deuces if the 4 of a kind had 2 deuces.

Are there any places that offer a deuces game as a tournament game? Seems like it is usually double double bonus.

Good question. I know of none, but I'm not much of a tournament hound.

Jean,

A program called Frugal Video Poker includes "Double Deuces 16/13" (100.92%) as one of the games you can choose when you select "show all machines". This is the same as "Downtown deuces" at the El Cortez. It can also print out the strategy for the game..

I assume that you know where to find that program. .

best,

Robert in Lakeside, CA

Like I said before, since Downtown deuces doesn't have any additional pay lines any Video Poker program that allows you to change the payoffs will work for this variation of deuces wild.

I got FVP to work with Windows 10 after a couple standard menu "compatibility" adjustments. It flakes out once in a while, but otherwise runs reasonably well. I was able to print strategy sheets from it as well.

I don't think Windows 8.0 and 8.1 have been able to adjust to running the program.

The only issue I've had with Windows 10 is that I can't install my licensed version of MS Office Pro 2003 on it. I think it's part of MS strategy to eventually require all MS application programs to be cloud-based rental software where you have to pay an annual fee to use their software each year.
