Double Up

I'm a new member and have been playing VP for a couple of years. I
go to Vegas, Mirage, about 5 or 6 times a year and have been playing
Double Double bonus poker with mixed results. My question, I
usually play with the double up feature on, how do you experienced
players view the double up in general, and in DDB? If you use it,
when, big hands or smaller pairs?

There have been detailed articles on the Double Up feature in the last two issues of Video Poker Times.

The bottom line is that Double Up does not change the game's EV. All it does is increase the variance.

Dan, will you allow the following?

- To the extent that in a session of a fixed length of time doubling
supplants standard wagers, the ER of a session will be nudged toward 100%.

- If doubling is limited to wins of 5 credits, and in many cases 10
credits, play variance will not increase from doubling. (Of course,
most "doublers" carry the activity well beyond those wagers.)
