I'm a new member and have been playing VP for a couple of years. I
go to Vegas, Mirage, about 5 or 6 times a year and have been playing
Double Double bonus poker with mixed results. My question, I
usually play with the double up feature on, how do you experienced
players view the double up in general, and in DDB? If you use it,
when, big hands or smaller pairs?
Double Up
I never use the double up on positive expectation games, as their is no
advantage to the player in using that feature. If you are playing full pay
DDB and playing optimum strategy, there is a slight advantage to the player.
10/6 DDB returns just over 100.06%. If you are playing a negative
expectation game like 9/6 JOB, the Double up feature is not such a bad idea.
I only use it on the lowest winning hand when five coins are returned for or
Jacks or better.

I never use the double up feature even if playing a negative
expectation game like 9/6 DDB. Part of this is personal preference
but the aspect of not earning slot club benefits while using the
feature is my main rationale. Cash back and comps are important to
me.

It also slows my play considerably and breaks my concentration.
Heh, I don't multitask well.
Sorry to horn in here, but I asked a Double-Up question earlier and
thought I might get a response from those following this thread, as I
did not get a response earlier. Here goes: If one does play with the
Double-Up feature on and chooses not to try to double on a
particualar winning hand, does the win show up on the slot card
before or after one selects "No"? Thanks for any help.

Sometimes the reason folks don't get an answer to their question is that no one knows the answer. In this case, I didn't know the answer, but most of the time people don't post a reply that says: "I don't know" ... and rightly so. Just wanted to let you know that you were not just being ignored ... at least not by me.
Good luck with finding an answer.

No apology necessary. As you might note, academic interests can run
rampant at times and overwhelm the more immediate and basic
considerations in play.
It might help to know your specific interest in this question just to
make sure that the answer is on target.
Bill's correctly suggests that few people know precisely how casinos
account for vp play and it's a safe bet that it differs depending upon
machine manufacturer and how recently it was manufactured.
That said, most slot data systems (SDS) I've been exposed to work
strictly on a coin-in/coin-out system and don't tally specific hands.
It's unlikely that a hand win would register on a machine with a
double option until after the "No" was selected or the double
completed. Some older systems don't record any play until you remove
your card (or send a summary of play after every "n" hands).
A loosely related question is if you pull your card before drawing to
a hand whether any subsequent win is reported. I've played systems
where it hasn't as well as where it was.

I appreciate the responses as well as the info, thanks.

Hello Katfish,
I would like to try to answer your question, but am not sure of
exactly what you want to know specifically "does the win show up on
the slot card" so I will answer both possible versions. Here goes:
For most every major casino a slot card will record a few types of
information. One of these will be a year-end accounting of your
win/loss amounts for your taxes, as losses are deductable from
winnings. If this is what you are asking, this amount is sent to the
main computer system when the card is removed from the reader, and
not after each play. Therefore, any one hand of doubling (or not)
will have no effect until the total win (or loss) is calculated.
If, however, you are refering to the collection of comp points there
is a different answer. I have yet to see a casino that counts
this "double or nothing" play as a coin in. Coins in register for
actual coins in to make a bet (not the same as the newer machines
where coins put in go to credits) or for credits played ( [BET 1] or
[PLAY MAX] ). Thus, nothing will record on your slot card for this
play.
Lastly, I have seen machines that will award the credits for the win,
then remove them should the player want to "double up". If you win,
double the credits are returned and if you lose the credits are
reading correctly. I have also seen machines that produce a "pop-up"
window that asks if you want to double PRIOR to the award of credits.
Both are possible, but neither version will affect a club card
balance. I hope this answers your questions, and invite you to e-mail
me should you need any additional information.
