Does anyone care about the sounds of VP?

I also like the sounds of VP machines! I am disappointed when the one I am
playing is silent or so quiet I can't hear it, but I can hear some stupid slot
half way across the room that is making noise even if no one is playing it. I
want to hear the machine that I am playing, not someone else's.

Well, it certainly is nice to hear I am not the only one. Which brings
up sort of an amusing story from tonights session at Wynn. I played
the machines by Lure, then went over to the machines by the craps
tables. Sat down at machine 301016 and selected DDB. Put in my money
and hit Deal, and guess what, no sound. Hit the Service button that
turns on the candle, and a couple of minutes later, a girl shows up. I
explain that the machine has no sound and she says nothing can be
done. I say it's a new IGT machine; you must be kidding; so I request
a supervisor. Joe shows up; tells me the craps players have complained
about the sounds; even so, he inserts his key; brings up the game
menu. Shows a slide bar that is set at zero; he starts to move it up;
I say stop at 25%; he pushes it all the way to 50%; then he and the
girl leave. I begin playing again and can immediately tell the sound
is too loud. So of course, I hit 4 Fours with a 3 for 800 quarters,
and the machine is belting out the sounds of win. Enough to drown out
the three people hanging around the machine on the end of the row that
are jabbering away in Spanish while not even playing. Gee, I love Las
Vegas.

Gee Charles

Of anyone to complain, the quiet craps players.

I know people who don't want sound because of the attention when
hitting anything. You get a fullhouse and 10 players are streaching
their neck to see what you hit.

When I hit a royal now I have been telling people who ask a lot of
personal questions, "Hey I'm happy with my hit." Then I'll add, " I
only put five bucks in machine." Sometime I lay it on thick
with, "this is the first time I ever played this kind of game." You
would be surprised how many people get mad at you if they think you
are not a regular player. Many years ago I sat at a 9/6 dollar
machine at Showboat(AC) and hit royal on second play. There were two
players that got up mumbling about how they just put tons of $$ in
the machine I hit on. Gee, you gotta like AC too.

Excellent story. Yes, the looky-loos can be a nuisance, even if one
doesn't have a good win on the screen. This used to aggravate me
when when I played at Caesars near the Shadow Bar. People would
literally stand two inches behind the VP chairs to gawk at the
shadow girls. I got fed up to the point that I requested that the
bar close the curtains. Yes, it cut off my view (like I hadn't seen
it before), but at least it got the gawkers to walk away and
hopefully go in the bar and spend two nickels.

One thing I didn't mention is I like the sound (I call it the
prompt) when you are dealt a pair of Jacks or better. It's a little
micro-rush that let's me know that the hand at least has
possibilities. I should also say I really enjoy the sounds that Spin
Poker and Multi-Strike machines make when you get a good hit. For
me, it just adds to the overall VP experience.

I too like sound. I have friends who don't like it. I like "the
prompt". It actually does give player a mini vacation for a second,
you know your going to at least get your bet back. The sightseers
have never bothered me. Sometime I get a kick out of them. Once I
was in the Dust walking through. Our group stopped for a bathroom
break about 1/2 way through casino. While waiting I slipped a bill in
a .50 slot. Couple plays later hit $500. Great! A few seconds later
this gal came by and explained she had been playing machine all
morning. She literally sat next to me waiting for hand pay;
explaining how much $$ she put in that machine. She told me I should
give her some of the win. And...she was serious. I got my hand pay
and hit the road to Frontier. She didn't follow me out door.
