Do paytables really matter to 99% of VP players?

I think a lot of people do look at the paytables, but this includes people
who are pretty clueless about what to do about strategy. They notice that
the paytables are slightly better, and play those, because obviously 9/6 is
better than 6/5 for jacks or better. But they have little idea of
correct strategy. This is why I often see people playing just 1 coin at
progressives or several lines at multiline machines (like 10 play). They do
notice the 9/6 but don't know about the benefits of playing 5 coins per line for
4000 coins for royal.

Essentially there are several reasons casinos should keep some good pay
tables around. First, people, including the great masses who know little or
nothing about strategy, do notice the paytable. Also, a few people who do
know what they are doing will win a little more, and they will start telling
people around them what good machines these are. They will also tell
friends and relatives to play at that casino (even though these people know
nothing about video poker - they will just here the knowledgeable ones saying
Such and Such casino has Good video poker, play there, not Casino X).

Pretty soon the casino will get a good reputation, even if there are only a
few machines, and thus attract more of the steady players (not just
tourists in for 1 day a year). This is why places like the Gold Coast retain a
steady bunch of local players who know little about strategy. They just
know that the better places help them lose less - they still lose but lose
less because the paytables are better, and they stick around.

By the way - please remember folks, casino managers and others are lurking
here on VPFree and on the Harrahs group and other internet groups. Watch
what you are staying about decent paytables, good machines, and other
stuff. Casino people do watch and sometimes stupidly take machines away
thinking they are "too good" (such as removal of some 9/6 JB machines).

These casino people should realize that even if they offered a game that
was exactly even, like a coin toss, the casino would win money. Over the
long run the casino has more money that almost any player, and even at 100%
games, eventually the player will hit a bad streak and won't have enough
bankroll to cover it. Further, the word of mouth about so-called "good games"
(most of which are paying back less than 100% to the player), brings in
other customers (such as those friends and neighbors and relatives).

The majority of people who know the correct strategy are not rich, don't
have great bankrolls, and make a lot of mistakes, and are not professionals.
And many are like myself, who occasionally play regular old slot
machines, or craps, or 3-card-poker, or double double bonus, or whatever. Playing
"good" games lowers our loss rate, but we still end up losing.

So the question for casinos is - do you want me to come visit you and play
some "good" games like 9/6 JB or NSU, which are still small winners for
the casino, and also play stuff like Star Trek or Double Double Diamond
slots, etc. and bring along my friends and relatives who know nothing about VP.
Or do you want to eliminate every single good game, even nickel 50 plays
and single line quarters, etc., so that I stop visiting your casino
entirely, and take my business on all my play both slots and VP (and my friends
too), somewhere else. ??? [For example this weekend I played at a casino
on $1 NSU and $5 Top Dollar slots. But without the NSU I wouldn't have
gone, because playing decent VP slows down my losses and lets me play for an
entire weekend, alternating between various VP games and slots.]
