O.K. now we can get into semantics.
To be of importance has two totally separate meanings in this discourse.
Are paytables important to the over all return to the player.
Of course they are, and to 100% of players.
Does the player know or even care that the paytables are important?
Not to most players.

Do pay tables matter? Merriman-Webster online says:
Main Entry:
2. matter
Function:
intransitive verb
Date:
1530
1 : to form or discharge pus : suppurate <mattering wound>
2 : to be of importance : signify
I think the first definition does not apply, although it make me want to buy some anti-bacterial wipes for the next time I play.
Ok, so are paytable of importance to 99% of VP players. The only logical answer is yes. Looking at the post by SteveM (and my own) we see that short pay on the full house will cause a considerable drain on the bankroll, This is true no matter the skill level of the player, especially on JOB. Therefore, if money matters, then the paytable matters, not to just 99% but to 100% of all VP players. QED.
