Do paytables really matter to 99% of VP players?

Do pay tables matter? Merriman-Webster online says:

Main Entry:
2. matter
Function:
intransitive verb
Date:
1530
1 : to form or discharge pus : suppurate <mattering wound>
2 : to be of importance : signify

I think the first definition does not apply, although it make me want to buy some anti-bacterial wipes for the next time I play.

Ok, so are paytable of importance to 99% of VP players. The only logical answer is yes. Looking at the post by SteveM (and my own) we see that short pay on the full house will cause a considerable drain on the bankroll, This is true no matter the skill level of the player, especially on JOB. Therefore, if money matters, then the paytable matters, not to just 99% but to 100% of all VP players. QED.

Should paytables matter to all players? Of course they should. Do paytables matter to all players? Obviously not, because there are hundreds of people playing short-pay machines in every casino, even when there are full pay machines nearby.

Why do people play short-pay? I think there are 5 reasons.

1. Some people don't know the difference (i.e. the clueless as A.P. mentioned).

2. Some people are superstitious and prefer to play machines that seem "lucky" to them.

3. Some people know the difference but don't care because the stakes are insignificant and/or they can't be bothered to do the work to learn the strategies.

4. Some people want volatility and would rather play a high-volatility game than a low-volatility game even if the low-volatility game has a higher EV.

5. And my personal favourite: some people actually think they are playing a full pay machine when they are not. There may be alcohol involved but it's often a case of someone who has heard that 9/6 is full pay and will play any machine and any game if it has 9/6 in the paytable.
