They do not matter to 99% of VP players.
The reason that they don't matter, is that 99% of VP players are clueless.

A Full pay schedule is only full pay if you know how to play perfectly the 99%ers are lucky if their intuitive one play that fits every game is more likely 90- 95% return anyway.
with a .5% reduction for every drink consumed.

(on my soap box)
Just to speak up a little for the clueless, because that was me a while ago. It is not that the "clueless" are necessarily dumb or stupid. It is the fact that some lack the information (in my opinion). As we did, coming in cold for our first trip to Las Vegas a couple of years ago, we were smitten with VP and enjoyed ourselves immensely, although losing some. But, that was expected. Hey! We were gambling in Las Vegas.
However, when I knew that we might have a second trip, i started searching the internet for information and was interested enough to follow up and start learning. Some might not be that interested and are happy to just come and play, without regard to what they might be playing, just having fun.
I guess the whole reason for this is to say, to some extent. at least in my opinion, clueless does not mean unintelligent. Maybe they just don't care and that, in my opinion, is not synonymous with stupid or dumb.

I think even even a great number of the clueless can tell the difference between a 99.5% and 97.5% game. They will have more and larger wins on fullpay and they will get to play longer no matter what their skill level. After all a poor players 95% return on fullplay is still better then 93%. I'm sure they notice the difference.

I too was one of the clueless wonders written about in this thread, but I also have worked to learn and expand my skills. I certainly do want to make money for my time and effort, but that isn't my ultimate goal...if I can't enjoy I won't do it. So, I treat my video poker like my full time job and if I am playing a game and getting frustrated I change what I am playing even if it doesn't have the best paytable(though generally just temporarily since I am not foolish).
Honestly that policy has always served me well. Five years ago, when I decided to change my job which was frustrating me to something that seemed more interesting and fun. When I made this decision pay wasn't part of my consideration I knew the hours would be longer so I hoped for enough more to make up for that, but really wasn't changing to make more money. Well, needless to say I wasn't displeased to find out I was getting a $16,000 pay raise for the change. A couple weeks ago I was playing at the Trump Taj in Atlantic City and was frustrated with the 9/6 JoB in the smoking section so I wandered around. I found Double Down Stud and while the pay table didn't look great, I decided to try it out because I needed a change. I put in $100 and knew I would stop if I lost more than $50 of my money. About 5 minutes later I hit a royal for $20,000. Again, I made a change because I was bored and frustrated and won out for it. So, in the end will I take the time to look for the best paying games I can? Yes! But will I stick around with something that is frustrating me? No! I will at least take a break and may dabble with something else just for the change. Does that make me clueless? careless? No, I don't think so. If anything I think that makes me more thoughtful! Or perhaps pretty darn lucky!
My 2 cents...
Very true.
But imperfect play on a full-pay machine loses less per hour than that same imperfect play on a short-pay machine.
