Do Casinos Punish Lucky Players?

Not VP, but the Mirage is not a sweat shop.

I had a session at Mirage a while back where I won
over $25,000 playing blackjack. I am sure they
tracked my play through the eye but either they just
tolerated my play or I fooled their program. Anyway,
I got a good number of decent offers from them and had
no problems when I took them up on an offer. Since
blackjack players come under higher scrutiny than VP
players for advantage play, I think it was just a
marketing screw up that you did not receive offers.

I had the same experience with unexpectedly high incidence of winning trips at blackjack at Treasure Island long ago, although none as high an individual trip win as described above. After ten years of card-counting, I was finally barred, just when I was thinking they didn't really care if I counted cards at all!

The barring extended to all their properties, but only for blackjack. In fact, that's when I stepped up my level of VP play, and I continued to be treated well, just not allowed to play blackjack.

I had been going three to five times a year and winning 80% of the trips, at a high level of play. I was pretty sure that they would have noticed, and was in fact surprised it took so long, once I knew that it DID make a difference to them -- of course, it's possible that new management changed the attitude toward card counters, who knows.

But I agree that on games where the house has the edge and the player can't do SIGNIFICANT damage to the house with expert play, they probably don't sweat it much, esp. in the short run.

Certainly if they are telling the truth about the mailing problem, they will be able to fix it, and in fact will restore offers that were returned in the mail (I've contacted a casino where I got an offer by bulk mail after it expired, and they "made good" on it on my next visit). If they don't fix it after a reasonable effort on your part to point our the mailing problem, then I guess in your case, you made somebody unhappy

The reason, I think, that Brad and I can still play almost everywhere even though most casinos know who we are is that we don't take too much money out of one casino. We spread our play around and don't sit at one machine or bank at one casino very often or very long at one time.

Those "eyes in the sky" seem to tell management about everything and
anything that's happening inside the casino and sooner or later, they
either move or swap that favorite machine of yours or they replace
the "chips" or the program with a different one.

It's not a hard and fast rule and it is a combination of time spent and frequency. One could play 6-8 or even more hours once in a while and probably be okay. Or, a couple of hours for many days straight. Where the danger comes in is playing long hours and often and perhaps only during juicy promotions.

This question has become moot for us the last couple of years since we don't have the energy or desire to play long hours or every day. We've been doing casino gambling for 22 years and made our "fortune." Now we want to rest more and have enough energy to spend some of that "fortune."
