We spoke to one of the hosts at Orleans who seemed to indicate that they were
now not allowed to give many discretionary comps to anyone - regardless of
type of play (i.e. reel slots or VP). We were told that only under
exceptional circumstances could they now give discretionary comps. Obviously
the hosts are also wondering how long their jobs will last since what will
they have to do!? The host also said that now out of towners booking hotel
rooms will no longer get a fixed amount of food comps with their rooms.
The indication was that this will soon be the policy at all Coast casinos.
Right at the moment we still were able to get discretionary comps at Gold
Coast.
It would seem to me that part of the problem is that with the $10 cashback or
$12 comp policy you feel like you are giving up part of your cashback to get
comps. Wouldn't it be better if they gave you $10 in a comp coupon, useable
anytime within say 30 days whenever you cashed in $50 in cashback? This is
the same as the $10/12 policy, but would let you get comps in a more useable
fasion, without seeming to cut into your cashback.
Anyway, since they have not only done away with discretionary comps, but also
have cut back on pay schedules at some machines, it would seem that 2x point
days at Orleans aren't as worthwhile. As someone mentioned, the best
reaction may be to show your displeasure by letting your feet do the walking
to some other casino.
It is interesting that this policy is apparently aimed at all players, not
just VP players.
