digest size, XVP

When I get a digest email, I delete the messages that I don't like and save the rest. I fiugred this would save me a lot of space on my hard drive. Recently, I took a digest and deleted all the meesages in it along with the message listing so there was no data in the email, just the address info. The email was still 51K in size. What takes up all the space?

If the message was also readable in html, probably the code. If it wasn't readable in html, I would guess that there is still text formatting for things such as font size, etc., that are even present in a simple 'notepad' file. Beyond that I would guess it is the header info, but I can't imagine that it alone would take up 51k; that seems rather excessive to me.

Nothing seems quite as simple as when we were using ascii text files on a cp/m operating system and most files usually took just 1k of space; everything seems to take so much more room, even though they are very simple.

But that really is crazy if you edited a Digest to keep just a single, very short file and it somehow still occupies 51K of space or more. Maybe it is something in your system, such as how you have your hard drive configured.

Good luck.
