Hmmmmm.......I can't understand why you call variance "important".
Variance is just a mathematically derived number to describe one aspect
of a gambling situation. It's not "important", it just exists as a
concept.<<
I think that variance is very important, although it's a long term
"concept" just like ER is a long term concept. Most players don't see the
ER and likewise don't see the variance as a specific value, say 26.07 for
DB (long term). But that doesn't mean that ER and variance aren't
important considerations when choosing a game to play. otoh, if someone
knows that they're going to be playing for a very brief time, where
variance plays a greater role in outcome, maybe neither ER nor variance
need to be a main consideration. But for those who put in many hours of
play, both are important.
