Digest Number 9078

I did not intend the reply to be nasty (I actually try very hard to avoid such posts on the internet to anyone, but obviously was not successful this time), so I apologize that it sounded like that to you. Just as your "Unless you are one of those people..." was not directed at me (which I realized), my response of "and if you are one of those people, why are you reading all this" was not directed at you, but at any person who is on the list and yet still might believe that when you hit the keys is important.
I was actually trying to reinforce your point, but I now see how it could have sounded, so... Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Barry, not sure where the nasty reply came from. I started my post by complimenting your post, saying that you nailed the essence of the dice challenge problem. When I wrote "Unless you are one of those people who believes that when you hit the keys actually changes your expected results", that wasn't directed to Barry, it was directed to the group so as to eliminate that particular element from the dice challenge. I would not have complimented your post and then criticize you in the same paragraph.

When you hit the key does affect the outcome, that's how they randomize the pseudorandom number generator:

John von Neumann on random numbers: "Any one who considers arithmetical methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin. For, as has been pointed out several times, there is no such thing as a random number - there are only methods to produce random numbers, and a strict arithmetic procedure of course is not such a method."

This pair of posts re pRNG (pseudo random number generators) presumably was prompted by a reference in a recent post to whether video poker outcomes are impacted by the timing of a button hit.

It goes without saying that card selection in current vp equipment is impacted by button hit timing. However, that influence doesn't go so far as having any impact on expected outcomes.

Therefore, for all intents and purposes, the timing of button hits is immaterial to any type of game analysis.

(And as far as the distinction between pRNG results and true random card occurrence, the thing to take home is that statistically one can't be distinguished from the other, and therefore it's not a significant distinction for the purposes of game evaluation.)

hi, IGT , VP machines in southern cal casinos like Rincon, pala, valley view etc with respect to randomness, are there any questions currently or the games are fair and square like NV ? Thank you.
