Each session is short term, but if you play frequently then the total of all your play is long term.

No. Standard deviation is simply the square root of the variance.
An aside: how does one measure luck (I don't think one can)? I've had
recent VP sessions when everything hit, others where nothing did, and
others when luck was middling (like last night) and ER actually seemed
to govern winnings.
I have often stated that luck exists only in the past tense. Just because one has been lucky does not mean that he is lucky or will be lucky.
