LVA Question of the Day - 23 MAR 2010

Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:10 am (PDT)QUESTION: I've wondered about a very large Big Six wheel I
saw on a Travel Channel "Las Vegas" Special. It looked to be
about 20 feet tall. I want to know what the story is. Where
was it? How big? etc. I recently saw the show again and
noticed the shot immediately preceded a shot with Anthony
Curtis in it, so I know you've seen it. What's the deal?Read the answer here:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Last time I walked through the Gold Strike it was an absolute VP wasteland, which is too bad because they once had some good games long ago.
The H'shoe (Harrah's) next door is just as bad.
In contrast, the Roadhouse (another Harrah's property) next to the 'shoe does have some good VP (e.g. 99.9% single line games). They also have some multilines with ~99% games like 15/9 deuces. Be aware that playing their best games will likely result in very uninspiring future mail offers. This has been reported by others, and has also been my experience. But if you're just looking for near 100% games and not concerned with mail offers, this is the place to go.

Most, if not all, Station Casinos have 10/6 DDB and also the Cannery and the Palms and a few others. They are in various denominations. Looks like 25c is the most prevalent. I don't know of any that aren't in vpFREE2.

M Buffet Wine - XVP
Posted by: "patricia swenson" jackessiebabe@yahoo.com jackessiebabe
Thu Mar 25, 2010 2:09 pm (PDT)Jayne, my rating of the wine selection offered at the M buffet is a solid B - to C+ . It is
satisfactory (to me) table wine which can probably be purchased in a wine store for about $10.00 per bottle, or in a restaurant for $6.50 a glass. Not great wine by any means, but perfectly acceptable. I've tried the white (Chardonnay) the red (Cabernet) and the blush
(White Zinfandel) and enjoyed each variety as an accompaniment to the outstanding food. The only criticism I have of the M Buffet, is the possible long wait for a table if you don't have a buffet comp with a line pass. The wait seems especially long for the Friday night
seafood buffet.Good eating!

Thu Mar 25, 2010 2:58 pm (PDT)Thanks Babe....even better knowing your rating (I'm a Two Buck Chuck kinda
gal anyway, so this might even be a step up for me!).Sounds like getting the line pass is the way to go.
I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back to Vegas...but I'm going to add M
to my list. Seems like there's a lot of good being said about it.Thanks for the info!

Re: XVP Rio Seefood Buffet
Posted by: "caplatinum" belairgold@aol.com caplatinum
Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:12 pm (PDT)The Rio seafood buffet is a joke. Many people want to eat seafood for health reasons. A lot of the stuff at the Rio is fried. You will find few healthy selections there. Lobster, they have some little spiny things - I think they are lobster birth defects or something.
I would also suggest the M as a much better choice. Even the seafood options on the regular buffet at M, or Wynn or Bellagio are better than the Rio Seafood buffet.
As for the lines at the M Buffet, even the VIP does not work any more as they have made it a "disabled" line and everyone is now disabled.

We are also going to have my 75 yo M/L in tow that hates the food ANYWHERE we choose to eat. Jenn & I love seafood and were considering the Rio buffet. My questions are 1. Is the buffet worth the price considering no comps are involved. 2.How is the food quality and 3.How are the lobsters served. We spend most of our time playing downtown or at the Palms. Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

I asked my host several times over 3 months what the charges were for and would not get an answer!

I was pissed about the cc situation and not feeling like a valued guest so I cancelled my reservation in December and let them know why and stayed at the Atlantis and Harrahs and got clobbered. The Peppermill could have had my winnings and more back if they weren't so elusive and dishonest.

Of course Harrahs and Atlantis have comp systems where you can see exactly what you have where you never know with the Peppermill. The rooms in their offers come out of your comps and their "free play" used to also. It was printed on the offer even though my host insisted that free play wasn't taken out but it was for a long time.

Re: Showboat AC FP 9/6 JoB??
Posted by: "alan3262" alan3262@yahoo.com alan3262
Thu Mar 25, 2010 9:11 pm (PDT)I was there March 16-17. The 8 machines were moved to the area near the promotional kiosks, which is in a non-smoking section. I saw the machines, but they are currently not in service. I don't know when they are supposed to be put back into service. As far as I know they will still be 9/6 but I couldn't say for sure.
In the meantime, there is a single 9/6 JOB machine in the high limit section, towards the center. It is a $1/$2/$5 machine and unfortunately this is in the smoking section.

In credit play mode (no stopping for handpays or taxables) it could have been worth around $2,300 per hour (1000 x $300 x .0077). Of course, the Kelly bankroll would be over about a million dollars ($300 x 26 / .0077). Doesn't hurt to have the bankroll of a Microsoft billionaire to be able to play such a game.

An unusual hand
Posted by: "Norma Posy" normagirl9@yahoo.com normagirl9
Thu Mar 25, 2010 10:19 pm (PDT)I ran into something interesting while playing "reduced pay deuces wild" with the following payoff table (to 1, with 5 coins in):
RF: 800
4D: 200
WR: 25
5K: 15
SF: 9
4K: 4
FH: 4
FL: 3
ST: 2
3K: 1Dealt: 2S, 2C, JS, JD, 10S
It turns out that the E.V. of 4.9362 is identical for discarding either the 10S or the JD!
This is so surprising that I made a hand calculation:
Discarding the 10S:
4 cards will give a 5K, and 43 cards a 4K
(4*15 + 43*4) / 47 = 232/47 = 4.9362Discarding the JD:
5 cards will get a WR; 3 for a SF; 6 for a 4K; 4 for a FL;
18 for a ST; and 12 for a 3K
(5*25 + 3*9 + 5*4 + 4*3 + 18*2 + 12*1) / 47 = 232/47 = 4.9362Question: Is there any "volatility" issue here that would decide the better discard?
Or is this really a flat-ass tie?
(As it happened, I discarded the JD and drew a deuce for the wild royal.)
Note: For the "full pay" deuces wild payout schedule, there is no tie.
Discard the 10: EV = 5.8511
Discard the JD: EV = 4.9574- - Norma
