5. XVP: Tax filing with supporting documentation?

Does anyone provide the IRS a copy of their daily gaming log or other
supporting documentation when filing taxes? Would doing so possibly
answer questions the IRS may have and avoid an audit? Or is it just as
likely to cause one?

I give the full documentation to my accountant, and of course keep a copy for myself. Lately I've been scanning it all to have an electronic copy, but I haven't gotten to the point where I trust computers enough to get rid of the paper copies.

I don't attach anything to the return, and the accountant also seems to find it unnecessary to do so (except W2Gs, etc., of course). As I understand it, the first thing they do in an audit is ASK for that documentation, but I can't remember if you can send it in by postal mail and save an in-person visit (it would certainly make sense, but we are talking the government here).

Do you attach w-2gs that don't have tax withheld (box 2) to your
federal return? I was under the impression that you only needed to
attach the ones with tax withheld to support your claim of taxes paid.
Your comment doesn't differentiate between the two, so I wasn't sure if
that distinction was implied or if I've been doing it wrong. Thanks.
