Anyone want to speculate on the chance of becoming stranded in the Reno
airport during the
middle of February? My wife and I (from southern Virginia where it hardly
ever snows) have a
long-standing policy of visiting Las Vegas in the winter and Reno/Tahoe in
the summer. For
the most part we both prefer Reno for the superior gambling options, but my
wife is afraid of
becoming snowbound in northern Nevada. Since she teaches and uses her very
limited
personal leave days for the vacation itself, she is unwilling to gamble on
missing a day of
teaching. Please advise.
Odds are that, flying in, you don't need to worry. Even though it
occasionally gets fogged in, have never been snowbound by air. It might happen but it's
more likely due to flight delays or bad weather holdups due to connecting
flights from Chicago & other major east coast airports.
By car from the California side, the odds are high that you will be
snowbound when there's a storm. However, if you travel on the Nevada side, the odds
are high that you will be able to get out of town during most storms.
During winter, I make the trip about once a month from the California side.
When it warms up, it might increase to twice a month.
