Subject: XVP: Driving to LV from Phoenix

Mapquest says the best route when driving from Phoenix or Scottsdale
to LV is via US 93. It looks like a 300 mile - 6 hour - drive across
empty desert on a 2 lane highway. I would appreciate comments, advice
from anyone who takes this route. Any suggestions on alternate routes
such as 4 lane US 17 to Flagstaff -US 40 to Kingman - then 93 to LV
(longer, but safer, faster??) or US 10 to Quarzite then US 95 to
LV??? Actual driving time for any of these routes??

Thanks in advance.

Kingman makes for a good gas stop. The middle exit (Stockton Hill Rd) has an
Arco with cheap gas. It is next to a What-a-Burger and an Albertson's
grocery too. For a better comfort stop for gas the Beal St. exit works. The Mobil
is clean and roomy and they have free air!

The Dam will get backed up. The Hacienda casino makes for a another fine
stop 5 minutes past the Dam. Going thru Laughlin works now too. The road is
done all the way to Railroad Pass casino.

Of course you could take the scenic/casino route out of Scotsdale. Hit the
new one, then Fort McDowell, Payson, CampVerde and Prescott. But that makes
for a fun day trip in the White Mountains and Sedona.
