I've been to Yerington a few times but never considered retiring there but once considered retiring in Carson City which had been rated as a good place to retire by one magazine, don't remember which then seriously looked into Minden about 15 mi S of Carson City due to meeting a lot of S Californians who retired there by word-of-mouth from aerospace industries. It's close to Tahoe & Reno with better weather than both. Yerington certainly is remote but you should check on availability of medical services in town because I would guess there's not much that's nearby.

Been to reno few years ago drove up to sliver springs(awful place) then down to carson city did not see much that was liveable in towns around.
