I'm going next weekend. I was in New Orleans last November for other reasons and saw the Hotels offered. They are excellent, and definitely walking distance. I'm staying at the Windham because they have better exercise equipment, but check the amenities you want before choosing.

You are correct, of course, which just proves my point. Very
naive "programmers", in the early days, refused to take relevant
things into consideration, and made assumptions that were grossly
wrong.
I admit that "memory" and "file space", in the old days, were real
problems, and, taking the easy route of using 2 digits, instead of
4, to represent the "year" was a route often taken. However, there
were (and are) clever ways around those sorts of things.
Most "programmers", back then, either were not aware of what could
be done or simply chose not to do so.

in, I have been told firsthand, (but did not see this) that a couple
had been playing at the same machine, his card was in, he got up to go
to the restroom and she hit a taxable, it took them something like 2-4
hours to get thier money because the wrong card was in the machine,
they did finally get the money. It has to do with MO having the $500
buy in every two hours (pain in the butt, and useless against problem
gambling) and they dont want people using other peoples cards.

9-6 jacks is a fair game at 99.54%, but you need to evaluate each game
on a machine individually. I have seen a range of 96% to 99% games on
the same machine. Also with Multi Denomination there may be different
pay schedules for 0.25 compared to $1. Of course play the game you
know best that has the best available schedule, or if they are all bad
try not to play at all, and hopefully find better hunting over the
next hill. Also remember that we read way more into the results of a
session than we generally should, the machines have no memory or
grudge against anyone, each new hand is totally independent of the
previous hands played, whether the past was good or bad has no bearing
on this next hand.

Thanks for the info Jim. Much appreciated. We are going to S.L mainly for
Tom's business. He has an Ace show there in the convention center, so we are
staying on the bus route for the show. We chose "Drury Plaza", hope it's
nice. Our plan was to Taxi out to Harrah's & other casino's with good vp in
the evenings & on the extra 2days we took at the end of the show. Is that
realistic?

Missouri has a long and convoluted history of its gambling. When the
state first approved gambling, it was for river boats only and they
had to physically cruise the rivers (Missouri and Mississippi).
Gamblers had to purchase tickets for a cruise and couldn't gamble
until the boat was underway. The cruises were for 2 hours, the boat
docked, passengers got off and new passengers got on. If you wanted
to go again you had to purchase another ticket. Early on this was not
possible as gamblers had to make reservations well ahead of time to
buy a ticket. These early versions were only allowed to offer games
of skill (Video Poker and Black Jack) and no games of chance (slot
machines, roulette, etc.). The state set a loss limit of $500 per
cruise (2 hours).
One day someone pointed out to the state they didn't have adequate
rescue equipment to take care of the passengers if one of the boats
ran into trouble while on a cruise. They relented and stopped making
the boats physically cruise on the water and thus gave way to the
'boat in a moat' concept we have today. The last true river boat went
away when Argosy opened their new casino a few months ago.
Even though the "boats" no longer cruised, the buy-a-ticket-and-board
concept lingered on. Then competition set in and first one then
another stopped charging admission -- the casinos still have to pay a
head tax on every "passenger" though. "Passengers" could only "board"
for 45 minutes every 2 hours. When Station (now Ameristar) built
their casino, they got around this absurd requirement by building two
identical "boats" that were mirror images of each other. One
"boarded" on the even hours and the other "boarded" on the odd hours.
Now the longest wait to enter one of their casinos was 15 minutes.
If you ever see this casino a "boat" will be the farthest thing from
your mind, it doesn't resemble a boat by any stretch of the imagination.
The casino lobby is strong and with support of the Missouri Gaming
Commission these silly rules and restrictions have gradually been
lifted. The $500 loss limit per 2 hour 'cruise' is still in effect
but just about everything else is like a normal casino. This loss
limit is controlled through slot cards. Everyone entering a casino
must have a slot card and use it to load a VP or slot machine or buy
in at a table game. A central computer keeps track of the money
gambled and resets to $500 on the even hours. It will not carry over
unused allotments from one session to the next, the only way to do
this is with chips, tokens, or TITO tickets. Machines will not accept
real coins (tokens only) but will accept bills.
This is probably more than you wanted to know but I got carried away.

So first thing on entering a Missouri casino is head for the slot
booth and get a card, you can't get in without one. Your existing
Harrah's card will work so take it along. The cards must have your
signature on the back and you are not allowed to use anyone else's
card (but we do).

I have been a regular player at TI for years. I have noticed that this year, the offers have completely dried up. I play VP almost exclusively, generating 20,000-30,000 points per 3 or 4 day stay. Usually the room is free and most food is free.
I inquired with a host as to why I no longer receive mail offers (some in the past were
quite good, containing $200 or more of free play, rooms, food credit etc). He offered no explanation, saying he would check and make sure I am still in the system. This was several months ago and no offers yet.
Apparently, with the demise of most of the good VP at $1 or less, they made a brillant marketing decision to exclude dirt bag VP players from the perks.
I am diverting alot of my monthly Vegas trips to other places, especially downtown, where they still have alot of good games and one trip and the offers roll in.

out that they are still holding slot tournaments, but apparently the

No strip places are sending them regularly or as good with the exception of NYNY.
The downside of course is that the once good (for strip) VP is ruined. A few machines
remain but no decent DB at any demon which is my favorite.
Still with NYNY I get them regularly so far this year.
