It’s a battle for which Detroit parking structure is the worst. They all have their bad points

Greektown:

What is so hard about getting a gate counter that actually works? The counters haven’t worked in at least 10 years. It’s plus or minus 50 on the number of actual spaces vs what is listed.

It’s also unclear which parts of the structure are one way and which are 2 way traffic. On some floors you will see 2 signs within 30 feet of each other. One says ‘Casino left’ and the other says 'one way and points right.

Motor City Casino:

They have been doing a lot of work so hopefully it will improve. There is always rain water on the lower floors. Pedestrians cross over the “no pedestrian traffic” signs and people drive way, way too fast. The light system ( green for open, red for occupied)
works pretty well but I’ve noticed some erroneous indications lately. Maybe it is part of the construction

MGM:

I avoid the first floor at MGM. Between people who will wait a long time for a parking space, even though it backs traffic up, or people who wait for people at the entrances, even though it backs traffic up, it just takes way too long to use the first floor.

The sight lines are tough and I’m surprised there aren’t a ton of accidents.

And at every parking structure, people drive way too fast. Be careful.

Hey nice to see ur still with us! You having problems in the garages or on the high speed autobahns leading into Detroit? I’ll be going 70 on my way to the casino and cars buzz by like I’m standing still. I have been playing VP with an old work friend of yours “lucky Larry” at Greektown.

Has anyone noticed the significantly reduced wins/pay at the MGM video poker machines ($1 progressive as well as the rest of their vp machines in general)? I’m a gold card player and have several friends who are platinum. We all primarily play dollar denomination and are there 3+ times per week. This isn’t a short term observation, its has become extremely noticeable over the past year the amount of jackpot wins and even numbers of 4 of kinds have reduced significantly.

We’re completely aware of the volatility of the games, random number generator, etc. But looking at our own experience since the casino has opened, its fairly apparent the winnings seemed to continue to be reduced year after year.

···

From my own perspective, it has resulted in reduced visitation. It’s unfortunate, but they are running some of their regular players away. I’m curious in other’s experiences.

Michael,

I have seen similar comments a dozen times. The ONLY way you can verify this is by actually tracking the data for a while. You need to pick what factor you want to monitor BEFORE you start collecting the data. You can’t change the data collection variable or the data collection rules in the middle of the data collection. You need to make sure you have the relevent factors in place. So , in your case, I’d suggest the following:

Hypothesis: Number of quads I hit at MGM is less than expected for the game I play.

Acceptance Criteria: If number of quads I hit is less than half the expected value, hypothesis is proven.

Experiment:

Play 2505 hands of 8/5 DDB poker at MGM ( EV of game is 96.8%). Expect to see a quad every 417.5 hands so I should see 6 quads on average. I will get 2 or less quads about 6% of the time. So, if I get 2 or less quads, I suspect something is amiss. If I repeat the test 3 times and get 2 or less quads each time, I confirm my hypothesis.

Yes, it’s a lot of work but it is the only way to see if there is an issue. It seems like, or I remember getting more quads doesn’t really prove anything except how inaccurate human memory and perception can be.

One more thing. The videopoker at MGM stinks. Except for a couple rare exceptions, it has always stunk and probably always will. If you play video poker at MGM for any length of time, you will lose all your money. The math works.

So, maybe you hit a bunch of quads previously, managed to hold on to your bankroll and now that the math is catching up, you think something is wrong. If you play 96% to 98% video poker, you will eventually lose all your money.

You are right about the crazy drivers on the Detroit freeways, ever since the police stopped patrolling and doing speeding tickets in Detroit it is very dangerous. They love going 90-100 MPH in the slow right lanes, then weaving in and out of all the other lanes. That’s why several times a week I get up in the morning the local news has another traffic death in Detroit from someone speeding out of control. We go through downtown and over to Canada for most our gambling since it saves us 25% of our losses using Canadian $'s.
