I work in an industry that relies on telemarketers for appts to show our
products. We don't sell anything over the phone. When we call people with
no interest, we very politely end the call. I would like to point out a
couple of salient points about this issue. Our prices for our services are
more competitive than those who use tv and newspaper ads to generate leads,
because those sources cost more. We employ people who for different
reasons are not employable in other types of jobs, but are fine on the
phone. Some of the people in this industry, would be living off of the
goverment, where it not for phone jobs. I'm sure we don"t want to support
more famlies with our tax dollars. Kat<<
Kat, I'm sure there are arguments pro and con. Personally, I don't like
being called by telemarketers, but there was one who called last night who
was very polite:
May I speak to the head of the family please?
Are you a telemarketer?
Yes sir, I am. Am I disturbing you during dinner?
No you're not, but thanks for asking.
Do you have to be using the bathroom right now?
(ahem) No, thanks.
Is there anything else you want to be doing right now that would make this
call extremely annoying to you?
No, not at all.
Oh. Well then I'll call back at a better time!
