Subject: XVP Spam and new Screen Name

I have changed my screen name for Yahoo VP groups only and it has only been
three days and I already have Spam in the new box. I do not surf using this

screen name. I have another email address for surfing which blocks all
incoming
mail. Do you suppose that Yahoo groups is the culprit and is "selling" names

to spammers? Please continue to use my old email for direct/private mail.
Thanks, Shirl in Las Vegas who is already enjoying the cooler weather.

There are robot programs that access newsgroups, bulletin boards, etc. to
compile "good" email addresses. Most likely this is how they got your new
address.

They don't seem to be searching this list. I get none on this email.

Yes but on usenet they do . Thats why I mundge (spoof) mine on
newreaders. However it is also likely that AOL sold you down the
river or you got dataminers in your cookie jar. you also might want
to go to >tools >internet options >privacy and bump up your settings
slider to medium high. this limits use of personally identifiable
(email and autocomplete) information with out your explicit consent.
