Basically Diamond status gives you four benefits;
1. You can now use the Total Rewards Diamond Lounge which is found at most
Harrahs properties, including the Rio in Vegas. This lounge has free food
(ranging from snacks in some properties to a fairly substantial mini-buffet in
others) and free drinks. Tips to the waiters are optional. Some lounges have an
actual bar as well as table service. At Harrahs in Vegas the snacks are
generally sandwiches, some veggies, chips, dips, and some desert items like cookies
or brownies. On weekends they sometimes have hotdogs, chicken wings, or if
you are lucky shrimp. At the Rio they have similar snack items plus better
desert items including chocolate covered strawberries. After 7pm at the Rio they
add a couple of hot appetizers. The lounges also have big screen TVs.
2. You can avoid the lines at the buffets by entering the Diamond/Platinum
line. This is especially helpful at the Rio's buffets.
You may also be seated in special areas of the buffet.
3. You can check-in at the Diamond Line at some properties.
4. You may be able to get a special dessert at some restaurants, or have
desert hand carried to you (Rio buffet for example).
Whether Diamond status by itself gets you better offers is a matter of
conjecture. My guess is actually no, it is your daily average that determines the
offers you receive. But it is possible that Diamond status may get you a few
extra offers.
