The El Cortez, I stayed their for three nights and it was one of my
better experiences in Las Vegas, for anyone that shoots craps or
plays roulette, they put in brand new tables while I was there, the
manager was singing the old crap table a farewell song! You can go
out the door and walk down to Fremont Street in two minutes when you
need a change of scenery.
The room was quite acceptable and the food was decent, on Saturday
morning they had a big pot of oatmeal that was quite tasty, but the
other things were tasted like what they serve in the military. They
had a sign on the wall that they will be adding a Subway sandwich
shop, dreyers ice cream shop and a Seattle coffee shop. They have an
airport shuttle that runs from 7am till 2pm Sunday thru Friday every
hour, so you can probably get by without renting a car.Anyone that
stays during April will receive a coupon for two night comp during
June, July or August.
My biggest complaint was the air quality, but it wasn't any worse
than the casinos that cost a billion dollars, and they should design
a new waitress uniform, I like naked women but the ladies working at
the El Cortez would be better served by covering up their assets?
As far as security, they have a guard checking to make sure you have
a room key before you get on the elevator but the guard isn't there
all the time and they will give you an escort to your car if you ask.
All in all, I give the El Cortez a seven, with ten being the highest!

I'll be there yet again in early June for the WSOP. I don't have to
worry about elevator guards as I take 1 of the original rooms just up
a flight of stairs near the entrance 
There still are some good old
things in Vegas...
