DIAD confusion

Diamond in a Day (DIAD) confusion still lingers among players and people at
the booths. A friend of mine recently was given wrong figures by a Total
Rewards (TR) boothling that she had about 9400 base tier points and needed 600
points to get "regular" Diamond. She played and then went to a booth and was
told she actually only had 9400 total points - or comps, and needed to play
3000 points in one day to get DIAD.

Now she already did have DIAD status for 2006 (til March 07)!

But my friend was confused by the desk, so played 2400 more base points.
Then she went to the booth and was told - she now had DIAD status til March 07.

Woops - she had played for nothing.

She was angry, and who could blame her. She talked to a supervisor and
eventually the supervisor phoned her at home and said she'll be getting DIAD
status until March 08.

But under current DIAD rules - currently people are supposed to get DIAD
only until March of the next calendar year -- this was a change made earlier in
the year. So theoretically she really only has DIAD until March 07, despite
what the supervisor said.

At any rate, she has the supervisor's name and the info about when he
called, so if she doesn't have DIAD extended til 08, she can complain - for
whatever good that will do.

But pretty much the best way to get Diamond and play the least is now to
earn DIAD in say Jan. 07, and that will extend you til March 08. In March 08,
play again (assuming DIAD still exists) and go for 09.

One big play day probably will generate some offers, but if you use these
offers and don't play, they will soon end. Meanwhile though, you can go to the
Diamond club and enjoy the Diamond entrances to buffets and meals, and avoid
some lines.

Another Diamond/7 Star benefit: show your card when you park your car in
valet. You will get fast service in getting your car. You can also show the
card to get to the front of the taxi line at Harrah's casinos!

I believe I remember hearing that you could not renew a Diamond card
you got by doing DIAD by doing DIAD again. In other words.. If you did
DIAD for 2006 you have to meet regular Diamond requirements(10k base)
to have Diamond in 2007.

However, hosts can award Diamond cards to worthy patrons at their
discretion. So if you did the 3k points in one day again, I'm sure you
could con your way into getting a Diamond card again if you said a
boothling told you you could.

I stopped by the Total Rewards Booth in Laughlin on the 30th and asked about DIAD. The
boothling had a brochure about how it works but I didn't take one since I got the answer I
needed. I hadn't seen a brochure that mentioned DIAD before, though. The boothling told
me that December DIAD was good until March 08, but November would only have been
good until March 07.
I had asked her some questions as I plan to go back to Laughlin in late January to earn my
DIAD. I plan on using the 5 cent 50 Play 9/6 JOB (I found 4 in a row in the non-smoking
casino). The casino was packed so I didn't verify the pay tables on all 4 machines, but I did

I too had something of a disconcerting experience at Flamingo when we were there the
week before New Year's.

I earned DIAD at Showboat in April 2006. At that time, I was told that my status would be
valid through 2006 AND 2007; I received an e-mail to that effect (and have kept it and
printed it out!).

I checked in at the Diamond desk to get an updated tally of my reward credits before we
started charging things to the room, and the representative asked me if I was there to get
enough credits to get up to Diamond for next year (I think I had about 8800 at the time). I
told her that it was my understanding that I was Diamond through 2007, and she said,
well, no: you need to earn enough credits before 12/31.

I said, well, fine, and left; after stewing for a bit, I went and checked my email and there it
was in plain English: "We determine Platinum and Diamond status based on play during a
calendar year. However, our Platinum/Diamond cards are valid March-March. Since you
reached Diamond status in 2006, you will be getting another Diamond card at the end of
March 2007 which will have a expiration of March 2008." (Note that this was correct as of
May, before they changed the program.)

I really wish that Harrah's would make everyone who worked at Total Rewards (and
particularly those at the Diamond desks) take a test on this stuff!
