GerryM replied:

You might consider using optimal Deuces Deluxe
strategy, rather than making adjustments. That's
what I normally do on most games that I play.

Gerry's advice will of course allow you to realize the optimal ER of
Deuces Dlx, 100.31%.

However, since your trip is just a matter of days away M J, it's
possible to use the FPDW strategy with which you're familiar, making
four basic adjustments, to realize the greater portion of DDlx return.
The reduction in ER is approx .15% (100.15%).

------

Just as a little background (and you can skip this if you'd like), let
me note that the DDlx paytable for 3K thru a wild 4K is 1/2/3/4/4.
NSU Deuces has the identical partial paytable, suggesting that NSUD
strategy can be used for DDlx play with only a modest cost. In fact,
the DDlx ER when played with NSUD strategy is 100.27% -- a sacrifice
of .04%.

Given this we can expect that a modified FPDW strategy, that would be
appropriate for NSUD play, might also be useful to play DDlx. With
respect to the effect on NSUD ER when a modified FPDW strategy is
used, the ER is reduced by .12%. We'd anticipate that the ER
impairment from play of DDlx with that modified strategy would be similar.

------

The above was intended merely as background. The key fact is that
with just 4 adjustments to FPDW strategy, it's possible to play DDlx
with a reduction in optimal ER of .15%. (100.15%)

Those 4 strategy adjustment are:

With no deuce:
- Hold a 4 card flush over a pair
- Hold 2 pair over a single pair

With 1 deuce:
- Hold a deuce w/ a 2-card ins.SF (5-J,1 gap + 45,56)
. (This is superior to a lone deuce, but inferior to all other holds)

With 2 deuces:
- Hold two deuces w/ a 2-card ins. SF (5-J,1 gap + 45,56)
. (Again, superior to the lone deuces, inferior to other holds)

There are other lesser adjustments that might be made M J, but these
will definitely do the trick.

I'll certainly reply to any questions, but I'm outta here the day
after you!

My apologies for the duplicate post. I've had some difficulty with
posts not appearing and when this one didn't within a couple of
minutes, I resent it. (Drafting it was too much damn work!

However, the analysis was pretty straightforward ... using the tools
in Frugal Video Poker (FVP)

oops ... is that a commercial plug, Administrator?

Hmmm, M J, you're gonna be hanging around the Plaza/LVC next week,
huh? ... it might not be such a bad idea if you kept one eye lookin'
over your shoulder. Too bad you went and told me what you look like
... I'm commin' into Dodge next week myself. (no fair goin' and
gettin' a haircut now!)

All right, the exercise kept me on my toes at any rate :).

What I can tell you right off the bat is that if you play 16/13 DD
using FPDW strategy "straight up", your ER is reduced from 100.92% to
100.62%. Now, that's not too shabby ... of course, if that's what was
planned you'd obviously be better off sticking with standard deuces -
DD can be pretty mean if you go a long time without hitting the
deuces. After all, you expect to lose close to twice as fast between
quad deuces hits.

So, I'd like to see what I can do to get you close to that 100.92%
potential ER without having to take too many strategy changes into
account. It may well be that someone's got that info at their
fingertips from their own play.

Otherwise, I'll have to give this a look-see when I have a chance. I
likely won't be back to you with this until tomorrow. Is that gonna
fit with your time schedule for your trip?

(Reply quickly, ok? ... you don't wanna give me two reasons to come
gunnin' for ya ...)

M J -- Seeing that this problem just started to occur, do you happen
to have individual group emails sent to you as they are posted?

(Important Note: I'm not suggesting that there is a potential for a
virus to be spread this way, it's very unlikely, and definitely not a
factor in the problem I'm witnessing.)
