Detriot

For one night of gambling I would think that the major consideration could be the atmosphere. Windsor is a smoke free casino, if you are a smoker you would probably prefer Detroit, a non smoker would probably prefer Windsor. There are also the border crossing aggravations. You will need a passport to re-enter the U.S. There are also the problems of exchanging money, you pay commissions to exchange money from U.S. to Cdn and then back again.

Regards

Will be in Detroit for one night. MGM or Winsdor as options. Is MGM tied to all the others and does anyone know a host email from there?

What are opinions of one over other?

Funny, the other two options, Motor City and Greektown, are much better choices than Windsor or MGM-Detroit.

I respect both Paladin and AP. I agree with AP's post, but am curious about Paladin's. I haven't paid close attention to MC or Greektown for a couple years. Last time I looked, Greektown still had MORE machines with good games than the other Detroit/Windsor options, but I'd still vote for MGM (PE + ambience + good comps - miserly CB). And, similarly, last time I looked, MC ran a distant 3rd overall (4th counting Windsor). What have I missed more recently at MC and the new Greektown?

Thanks.

Well, both Greektown and MCC have hotels now. Greektown has Pick'em (Bally's) in many denoms (at least from $1-25) and a good bartop progressive for dollars.

MCC still has the $5 progressive, albeit at a slower meter than last year. It was 1% at one point for a few months. The buffet is the best in the area, and comparable to the better Vegas buffets. Other food outlets are good too.

You won't make any real money there, but I'd guess in the current economy, it would be a cheap room comp with other good amenities, plus break-even machines.

Detroit was very good 1998-2000, close to dead since then.

GT is the most liberal with room offers followed by MC and finally MGM. For an out of towner, GT is probably the best bet...unless the MC progressive is up. Don't forget a stop to Pizza Papalis.
