Hello Starhunter:
I am the casino monitor for Fremont and I've never stayed there. I
usually get up early one day and wander through and check the listed
inventory and try to check out machines in new locations. One
morning, I had two uniformed security guards eyeing me, so I went
over and told them I was looking for a game called All American
Poker, and that I was sure I played it in this casino! They said
they'd never heard of it, but left me alone to do my button pushing.
As for showing ID, I personally would never argue with security
guards, especially downtown where they are often armed, whether or
not they have a right to ask me for it or not. I might ask them in an
extremely friendly manner whether or not I'd done anything wrong. I'd
imagine since they have the right to trespass me, they have the right
to ask for my identification. I can't see that I would have anything
to gain by refusing.

Personally, I am constantly pushing buttons on VP machines,
looking at the pay tables all over the casino. I have never been
approached by anyone (security or otherwise) for doing so.
And, if I was being observed, I was unaware of it every time.
Why would a casino care if someone was walking around
pushing buttons and not playing? Is there some reason why
I should curtail my poking around from now on? I certainly don't
want a confrontation!

I have never been detained, but I have had a security guard approach me
once after I did the same. He told me that they had problems with
people snatching credits out of machines and I just assumed at the time
that maybe my behavior was suspicious as I pressed buttons checking
paytables on a few machines scattered across the casino floor late one
night. I told him I was staying at the casino and even had my player's
card and money in my hand ready to play, so he didn't bother me
anymore. Personally, I feel a little on the safer side that they look
out for suspicious behavior and since I have no reason to be concerned,
it didn't bother me at all.

Casino security staff have no right to force patrons to show ID. If
you refuse, they have a legal right to eject you from the premises.
If a casino security officer asks to "speak to you in private"
immediately head for the nearest exit. If they try to physically
restrain you, inform them that you are attempting to leave the
premises and they are kidnapping you. If they continue to detain you
against your will, do not physically resist as they can then try to
pin a bogus "disorderly conduct" charge on you. Try to remain calm
and mentally note details on all staff involved with your involuntary
detention...you'll need this for your future civil suit.

No, this is definitely NOT true, although it is probably a widely held
belief by casino security guards. Nor is there any requirement that
you even have an ID on your person while in a casino. (As someone once
posted on BJ21... This is not Nazi Germany - we aren't required to
carry "papers" with us.)
If you look like you might be under 21, the security guards have a
reasonable cause to ask to see your ID. Otherwise, there is really no
reason that they need to ask for your ID.

require a casino to alter its relationship with its customers in a way
that is inconsistent with industry practice. As a result, FinCEN

This same thing happened to be back October I think it was last year.
Happened at California Club. I was on my way to MSS and checked out
two or three machines for paytables. Good Grief, you have to change
the game to see the paytable and there is no other way to do it other
than "pressing buttons without putting money in!"
Same story. However no reason was given until they had talked back
and forth on their two-ways for 10 minutes. And, they had me blocked
right at the top of the escalator as I was LEAVING! After all was
said and done, they said I "looked suspicious" in the way I was
checking out the games. No apology or any indication that they had
unnecessarily harassed me. I haven't put a nickel in a machine or
played BJ there since. And "yes", I've been backed off from BJ tables
before though never at MSS or Calif Club.
I sent an eMail to the address at their website but never got a
response from them.

Now I have yet to read the other replies. But...at a minimum, this
is a great story. This is a time here in Las Vegas that some tourist
market share is up for grabs. Yet, not one operator seems to want to
take it. Well, in a few years, what is essentially Walmart Las Vegas
will be on Las Vegas Blvd near downtown. And they will gladly take
on all players that can accept 99% VP. Alas, no slot club. But the
tourists will love it.

All of this quoted material pertains to government reporting
requirements for large cash transactions, under the pretext of
preventing money laundering. And in these situations, it will be
someone like the cage cashier asking you for your ID, not a security
guard who is randomly harassing people on the casino floor.
The act of checking pay tables on video poker games has nothing to do
with the "suspicious activity reports" related to large cash
transactions.

Okay, we are finally gonna do it. We will be in Vegas for the 4th this year - in spite of the crowds, heat, and the fact that we have a waterfront place on Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho. of course, it will be 85 degrees this year on the 4th - it usually rains sideways!
The wife really wants to see the fireworks. There will be plenty of fireworks if i haul her away from the lake and she doesn't see any fireworks - if you catch my drift!
Where? When? How? Don't know the best place to watch, but thought about the Voodoo Lounge? Are they gonna be Wednesday? time?
We could just lay on a bus bench for most of the evening and look up - but the way I dress i might get carted off to jail.
Thanks!

You want to see fireworks? How about inviting Dancer and Boyd to lunch.
Maybe toss in a few of their supporters too. That might work.

Hey Don,
I think we have potential pay-per-view material here. How about two
out of three, UFC style??
You and I could be partners...D&D Enterprises...no arguing about whose
name comes first...they have a venue at the Palms we may be able to
use...wonder if I can use my points to rent the joint? No, the Joint
is at the Hard Rock...I mean rent the ring...Live audience gets in

We were there last year and the only fireworks we saw were when the
LVPD shot a guy outside of our hotel - Barbary Coast. We had a very
hard time making it back from Wynn because the strip was lined with
people waiting for a fireworks display. We were aware that there would
be none, but it didn't make it any easier for us to get through the
crowd. When we got back to the BC we played for awhile and then my DH
tried to go outside to see if there were any visible displays. He was
blocked by security because there had been a shooting and traffic
accident at the corner of Flamingo and the strip. It turned out that
there was a guy playing his music too loudly in his car and a LV
bicycle cop asked him to lower it. He refused and the cop reached in
the car to lower the volume himself. At this point the drive gunned it
with the cop's arm in his car. He hit a cab that saw the whole
incident and blocked him. The driver's airbag inflated causing
a "bang" that the cop's partner mistook for a shot fired. He shot the
driver killing him.
Stick with the fireworks in your room!

We were there for this incident, too. We were staying at the Flamingo and coming back from the Strat, and got caught in all the traffic.
We had dinner at Top of the World on the 4th. We could see lots of fireworks all over town. A different perspective from the usual fireworks display. You just had to look out, and you could see them popping all over town.

The Fitz is a funny place - they prohibited me from entering a Keno Tourney due taking 1st place in Aug 2004 on my second buy in due opportunistic play (in English noticed biggest winner thus far was only about $2700 and decided to rebuy, played 1/8, 4/7, 8/6, 12/5 at 40 cents a way at their 40 cent truly special rate (house edge <15%) and hit 2-1-1-1-1 our of 2-2-1-1-1-1 for a solid 6 and 4 solid fives for about $2800 to take 1st). They still advertise their tourneys on their website without mentioning that tghey can exclude palyers because they win.
