Desperation on part of casinos

When I got home from work tonight, the HET folks had left me a phone
message -- first time ever for me -- offering free rooms at Rio,
Bally's or Paris for certain dates over the next month. I'd always
recieved mailers, but the phone exhortations were new.

Actually with the cost of mail going up. And the cost of
telecommunications going down (VOIP and other services) it is most
likely cheaper to call you then mail you.

I complained to my host at Harrahs and was told they are "forced" to
record these messages and they hate them. Hosts feel a generic
message completely takes away from the "personal" attention you
deserve to receive. I was told you can't "turn off" these messages
without completely deleting your account.

Also get an occasional one from various MGM-Mirage hosts but not
nearly as often.

Don't worry - you'll still get lots of mail. But the trend is towards
large cards as opposed to envelopes to save on postage, labor, etc.

Actually you *can* turn off these messages. I did it simply by going
onto the HET website, emailing customer service and asking that my
phone # be removed from my account. They did it without asking me any
questions or giving me any problems.

Now if I go check out my personal info on the HET site (under 'My
Harrahs'->'My Profile') there is no phone # listed. Havent been called
since.

Yes, deleting your phone number can stop the calls. My host was
indicating that when a phone number is listed the "nuisance" calls
are automatically generated and cannot be stopped.

Your actions brought to mind a better idea - give your host
your phone number privately but don't list it in the system. You
still want the property to be able to reach you if they need to know
something (has happened to me with show&time reservations, dinner,
flight # for limo pickup, etc etc.).
