Demise of Free Play?

Here's an article in The Day describing the settlement between CT and the casinos regarding free play. It's not good. CT considers the free play as taxable wagers, taxable casino winnings, subject to the 25% CT taxes on the casino's net slot win. Foxwoods and Mohegan agreed to pay $25 million to settle, and accept a provision that any free play exceeding 5.5% of monthly slot revenue is taxable by the State from the casino at a 25% rate.

To quote from the article:

"The settlement also, in effect, limits the free slot play promotions that the casinos could give out, unless they are willing to pay more to the state."

I haven't seen any free play offers beyond August 31. Probably won't get much, if any.

Just got my September calendar and there are no fee play days listed. On my August calendar, there were 3 printed. I also got numerous August days with extra free slot play that weren't on the calendar.

BUT, I also got a Free play mailing with $100 good twice during September, each for any of 4 days. The bride got the same time periods, each for $20. That is approximately the same amounts we have been getting (same for her, I occasionally get $125 instead of $100)
