Just received my monthly mailer from the Beau Rivage, and in big
letters it said:
"Great News! Your coupons are now active starting at 7:00 AM on the
first day of the validation period."
Say what??? These coupons used to become active starting at 12:00 AM
on the first valid date. I want to know how in the heck this change
could possibly be considered great news by anyone, except for the
casino, since it will result in reduced coupon redemption rates. One
or two other casinos in my area have unfortunately started this
policy also.
OK, I'm not stupid. I know that this change will prevent people
from "double dipping" by stopping in at 11:45 on the last valid date
of a coupon, cashing it in, then waiting a few minutes until 12:00 to
cash in the next weekly coupon. I've never seen anything wrong with
that - it's just sensible time management. Frankly, I think this is
a very short sighted move by the casinos. How much business are they
going to lose from regular players who would have had an incentive to
hang around and play for an extra hour or two if they knew that they
had a coupon that became active at midnight? Or how much bad will
are they going to generate from players who intentially stick around
for another hour or two until midnight to use a coupon, perhaps
losing heavily in the process, only to find out that they didn't read
the fine print and their coupon isn't good until 7:00 the next
morning?
Are the Las Vegas casinos starting this practice yet?
