The ULTIMATE waste! I had a reversible Royal on my Win Poker
program on my laptop!! I didn't take a picture of it but I did
rush downstairs and show it to my husband.>>>

Easy to fix. Switch to Frugal VP, add 50K to seq. RF. You'll feel a whole
lot better next time!

I might feel a whole lot better, but my bank account won't feel a
thing. My husband has the notion that we are each alloted so many
Royals per lifetime, INCLUDING those received while playing on
laptops. He gets upset when he gets a RF on WinPoker (which he only
plays prior to a gambling trip.) I play/practice on the laptop
constantly between trips, and have played over 2,000,000 hands
between my office computer (I'm the boss, so no can say anything to
me!) my private laptop and my business laptop. I play a lot on long
cross-country and overseas trips especially. It makes the time go
quickly. Anyway, I've had countless Royals on WP during all this
time, and I still get a kick out of snagging one even without the
financial reward. I have often wondered though, what the 40,000
hand average, for a RF to appear, really means. Must it be 40,000
continous hands on one machine? If it's an M/G machine, one game?
Does any one have a opinion, or actual facts about this? I'd be
interested in comments.

there are others that can answer this more accurately, but the
frequency of royals is dependent on the game (wild card games have
fewer royals) and your strategy, some I believe are as low as 34,000
and others in the 4x,000, also if your on a progressive and it has a
high royal value you should adjust your strategy to 'go for' more
royal opportunities. about a year ago I was on a non progressive
machine and hit a royal, stay around for a while and 20 min later hit
a second royal on the same machine. theoretically you could hit a
royal back to back but that would be way at the end of the bell curve.
keep practicing, and keep those skills up, it pays at the end (casino).

Don't have any knowledge or real facts, but Tom & I tend to agree. You are just allotted so many royals & when we get them on frugal vp, we think (probably mistakenly) that's our 1 in 40K hands. This is probably not correct & I'm sure an expert will tell me why, but...you know how superstitious we gamblers are!

I don't believe there is any correlation to how many hands you play on
Frugal VP, Winpoker, or real VP machines to how many royals you get.
The 1 per 40,000 is more like an individual hand odds; 1 in 40,000
chance of hitting a royal on that particular hand. What has been
played in the past, what will be played in the future, what it
was/will be played on has absolutely no effect whatsoever on this hand
and, therefore, the number of royals you will get. Your 1 in 40,000
odds may hit on this hand and the very next hand, or it may not hit
for the next 100,000 hands. The only game in the casino that has a
memory is black jack; machines have none and, therefore, don't owe us
a royal after 39,999 hands. That's the nature of the beast.

The terms commonly in use are unfortunate. The idea of a "royal
cycle" of n hands leads to the notion of "an interval of n (or maybe
n-1) hands between Royals." All we really "know", though, is that
the chance of a Royal on the next hand is 1/40,000 (or whatever the,
er, cycle is). There also exists math to specify the chance of a
Royal sometime in the next 30,000 (or whatever) hands.

However, if you don't get a Royal on the next hand, it does not
change the probabilities for the hand after that (also unfortunate,
I guess - you may be "overdue" but the machine has no idea of
this ... 8-).

Also, if you move to a new machine, it doesn't know you failed to
get a Royal in 10,000 hands on the neighboring machine. And the
machine you deserted doesn't know either. Nor will either machine
be insulted when, upon failing to get a Royal on the next hand, you
declare, "Stupid @#$%^& machine," as I like to do ... 8-).

Thus concerns about 40,000 (or whatever cycle) hands on one machine,
or details of the machine type, are really irrelevant.

Thanks for an interesting and intelligent post. Also, thanks

for letting me know you posted it. I would have missed it o/w.

I agree that it's irrelevant how frequently (or infrequently) the
most beautiful of SFs appear, however, it just seemed like a good
topic for discussion that day.

I have actually gone for months w/o a Royal, and than hit 3 w/i a
short period of time. I have drawn a Royal from every conceivable
hold i.e. drawing 5 new cards to holding RF4. I've drawn
sucessfully to singleton Ace, K10, KJ, J10, AQ etc. I've never
snagged a Royal from A10 however. Perhaps because I only hold A10
when chasing a prog. I try not to do that too often as, usually, it
is quite costly to my bankroll. I have scored a few prog. Royals,
but I'm still way negative, over the years, while playing them.

May all your straight flushes be Royals.
