Bob Dancer reccently stated that DDB is a game that the casinos
WANT you to play, and that they are often not the best game in the
casino. Even though some versions pay 100%+ is is because of the
variance?
DDB
I would think that variance is basically meaningless. The casinos have
the bankroll to survive variance. Most average players play DDB worse
than JOB. If you watch the average player, I would guess that about 1/2
of them toss the second pair from JJ, QQ or KK plus another pair. This
single error is probably the most expensive mistake made in terms of
total payback by the VP playing public. It costs about 1/2% of total
payback on 9-1 FH DB and DDB and about 5/8% on 10-1 FH DDB and DDB. Of
course anybody that makes this error probably makes many more.

I assume that Bob was referring to the most common DDB pay schedules
(9/6 - EV 98.981%) or even the worse pay (9/5 - EV 97.873%) which are
available in most casinos. The much rarer 10/6/50 pay schedule (EV
100.067%)is positive, though the variance is quite high. Sometimes
the 10/6 pay table pays 40 coins instead of 50 coins on the SF. The
EV then drops to 99.958%. I'm reasonably sure that Bob meant that the
casinos welcomed players who embraced the first two pay tables, not
the positive or nearly positive ones.
