Such a true article.
It's been bothering me lately reading some of the Poker magazines that are around and seeing how they idolize these very young (21 years old) "professional online poker players". I actually think that not only is it misleading but is morally and ethically wrong.....but I also think that those who write these articles are more interested in selling more magazines to other young wannabees than anything else.
And as always, buyer beware.
Recently there was a long article about a 21 year old who has already had several sessions where he lost over a million dollars. I saw him on Full Tilt High Stakes poker the other day and he was $216,000.00 down.
What's to admire?
The fact that he has other days where he might win over a million? Certainly can't count on that.
And more importantly, how will he ever, at this young age, be able to match the excitement and adrenalin he gets from gambling like this?
I've thought about trying to write something to these magazines, but really think it's of no use....it's all centered towards young guys those ages who wouldn't care to listen anyway. And as I read these articles by the young "professionals", it's amazing how often their strategy is revealed by discussing hands that they've won by some bizarre luck or whatever. Except in their case it's always some uncanny "read" on their opponent. Even I could write strategy articles like that.
And I see so many of them playing live in the poker rooms.....so cool with their hoodies pulled up and sunglasses, etc. It's only a very few who have made actual huge amounts of money at this......
The reality of gambling is expressed very well in this article by David Matthews.
