Dan vs Bob bickering

I haven't been following this whole thing - but isn't it really based on a
remark made back in 1993 or 1994 by Dan? Errr....Bob - isn't 10 years enough
time to just forget about it if not forgive? And errr... isn't this all
something better left for back and forth email and maybe a face to face
discussion (with the pile of magazines in front of you perhaps) to try to come to an
understanding? It is sort of disheartening, and maybe just a little silly
from the viewpoint of all the rest of us on VPFree to find 2 of the top 5
experts in the VP field having this sort of argument. Each of you have done much
to help "average joe" type players such as myself. I'd hope you could resolve
your differences like grown ups and put hurt feelings and misunderstandings
aside to at least ignore one another over past (and present) grievances, if
not give one another respect.

At any rate - maybe it is time for this discussion to be finished here.

misscraps,

I don't know what you do for a living, but, let's say you work/worked
with other people and someone posted a statement on a public bulletin
board for everyone to see that questioned your qualifications and the
remark was based on something they recalled. How would you react?
Would let the remark remain, unchallenged? Just how would private
exchanges between you and the offending person undo the potential
damage that the initial act created?

The bad blood between these two guys is historic. What started it I
believe making comments about the accuracy of the others strategy
cards. This whole thing is personal and does not belong here. It is
very very tiresome.

In the scenario above, the conventional wisdom in our culture today is to
fight back; i.e. calling the person out, trash talking them, threatening
them and then ultimately sue them which mostly only benefits the attorneys
(that is their occupation of course). I understand this type of thinking
and in some cases it is the only choice you might have.
In my experience regarding conflict, in most cases it is easier to come to
a resolution to a problem without making a public spectacle of it. If you
choose to go public with it and one up the "first offender" in a public way,
it raises the stakes exponentially and makes it very difficult to resolve to
anyone's satisfaction. Sometimes, by keeping it private it makes it easier
for the parties to resolve and move on. Also, time can take care of the
potential for damage if you have validity and a loyal following to begin
with.
In the "bickering" that this thread refers to, in my mind no one "won" this
debate. There was just a lot of dirty laundry aired and I might speculate
that the participants possibly both think even less of the other than they
did previously. So it really did not benefit either party or this forum, in
my opinion. And that is just too bad. I have learned a lot from both Bob
and Dan's material and it is sad that it came to this type of a
confrontation over something so small in the overall scheme of life.
However, this is just my opinion and I have problems of my own to deal with
as well.

Jon

yes, and to think these two use to be best pals in
bedrock high!
