Cruise Ships

Starting to take regular cruises -- has anyone found any hidden gems of VP on any ships, anything close like 9/6 DDB; maybe 9/5? What about regular dealt blackjack, not CSM?

I have found 9/6 DDB; and 9/5 on the new Solstice Class ships on Celebrity!

I will be on Norwegian Epic next week. I will look to see if there is ANYTHING playable.

Not only are there poor pay tables for VP but the BJ has
CSM and other rule changes make many other table games
not fun. Craps has high minimum wagers.

If they don't take your money in their casinos, they have
several restaurants where it is an extra charge to dine.

One can save on shore excursions, too, but most people
don't have a clue on how to do these things.

Added tipping policy is also a way that the company
probably saves on salary costs. My porter complained
that with this policy he gets less tips and people you
never see or interact with get part of the tip money.
Opt out of mandatory tipping and just tip those
that you feel deserve it. Please don't use this as a
way to stiff the staff.

Internet fees are sky high.

I think NCL as the Harrahs of cruise ships and no
wonder they have a working arrangement.

WTF is CSM??

I went on NCL out of NO last year. each adult passenger got a coupon book with several excellent deals, e.g. you play the coupon with up to $25 bet at BJ, and they deal you one card instead of two, with the coupon acting as an ace. Through the trip we collected the coupons from any non-gaming friends who had no interest in them.

On the other hand, those "flip-it" machines (where you try to make coins avalanche over the edge, are pure, pure evil.

Continuous Shuffling Machine. After each hand, all played cards are
reshuffled into the shoe. Many years ago, these machines were not so good
and "card clumping" could sometimes be exploited. Now they are almost as
good as shuffling the shoe every other hand so counting is almost useless.

This is where a database of cruise ships VP would be good. Least for me.
I would love to show the casino manager on several cruise ships how bad their VP is compared to others (see the reply about 9/6 DDB).

My particular wall of shame is NCL Spirit out of Boston. 96% machines at $1. That's $120/hour exepected loss.

Am back in San Diego and interested readers may query the San Diego Union-Tribune issue of Friday, November 19, 2010.

An 11th proposed Indian tribe casino in and around a cluster including Pechanga, Pala,Pauma, Rincon and Valley View
is in the planning. This is in the Escondido-Temecula county area. I was a bit out of sorts as I approached Barona on a foggy, rainy Saturday and surprised at the weekend crowd.

My section near the gift shop seemed devoid of beverage service and the employee ratio on the weekend did not seem
sufficient for the crowds. I had always liked the atmosphere on weekdays. The sandwich with soup and fruit skewers was still a great buy at $8.00. I broke even on a short session which included $9/6, $8/5 BP and $10/7 DB where I finally got my one quad of 4's.

I also want to mention that the security check at McCarren in the Southwest area "C" used the glass bubblelike scan. I thought it was just metallic things that had to be taken from one's pockets so my "stuff" was already on its way in the conveyor belt tubs. I had to remove my bankroll , hold same in my hand as I was scanned. I had about 6K in $100 bills which was still a bit clumsy to hold in the prescribed position over my head until the scan was complete. I do not advise carrying your cash "wad" on your person.

After the C gate clearance, my C 9 gate was quite a ways to walk down this lengthy corridor. Not for the physically challenged!

More nonstalgia, sorry if you hate it.

"11th casino" reminds me of when nv and then nv and ac were pretty much the only places to go for gamblin and vp. Then Steve Wynn made a statement to the effect that casinos would soon be very common across the country. After 15 years, that is very much the case. I'm surprised there is still capital available for more of them. Wonder what another 15 years will bring?

I was on RCI Voyager of the Seas last week. Video poker was bad, Jacks or better was 6/5, I did find a couple of shoe (not CSM) $6 blackjack games that paid 3:2, but they did have 6:5 single deck also.

Ur comment on flip it machines made me laugh. Wife and I would be giving them money on the 96% VP and watch people picking up quarters off the floor from those machines.
We saw a lot of lobster tails - different shapes and sizes.
