Credit Line, ATM, Cashing Checks?

I was wondering how most people handle their bankrolls. Do you roll
into town with a wad of cash? Travelers Checks? ATM? Credit Card
advance? Cashing checks at the cashier cage? Set up a credit Line?

I was thinking about setting up a credit line, and I was wondering if
you get a line set up at one of the Park Place hotels, are you set up
at all of them?

On my last trip, I had a bad first day, and I could see my cash
drying up before my trip ended. Fortunetly, my luck turned around,
and it became a moot point. However, I can see this happening again,
and I would like to be prepared. It seems like carrying large
amounts of cash may not be too smart of an idea. ATM? My bank only
allows $300/day withdrawal. Credit card withdrawal? Have you seen the
fees? Travelers Checks? Big hassle to get and cash in. Cashing a
check at the casino? I asked, and I could never get a straight answer
on how much I could cash. Credit Line? It may be a pain to get, but
it might be the smartest.

Anyone have ideas?

Find a bank with branchs in your home town and Las Vegas.

set up a online account at wells fargo . transfer your bankroll
into it before you leave. and go to the hundreds of branches in LV
and withdraw. apply for and receive a ATM card with a 700 per day
max withdraw for those bad nights when the branches are closed. but
remember to stock up for the weekend.

Credit lines are relatively easy to establish, even from Canada.
However, you must plan ahead. Just phone the hotel on their 800
number and ask for the main cashier. Tell them you would like to
establish a line of credit. They will fax you a simple one page form
for you to fill out and fax back. You will need to give them the
name and phone number of a contact person at your bank as well as
your account number(s). The casino will usually call your bank
within one or two days. When you arrive at the casino, you will be
required to give them a void cheque, After that, you simply sign
markers at the main casino cage. You have a certain amount of time,
usually up to 45 days, to repay the markers. Your line of credit
will also remain in effect for your next trip, although it will
presumably expire if it remains inactive for some period of time.

I have also found that the machines are "friendlier" after you have
inserted money borrowed from the casino. <g>

Another interesting issue is how to get the cash home if you have a
good trip composed of several smaller wins. On one recent trip my
wife and I were ahead about $4000 by the end of the week. We didn't
have a single large win that we could have asked for in a check, it
was several good days in a row. I didn't want to carry over $5000
through three airports, so we set out to find a bank. We tried
several banks in an attempt to get a cashier's check but not of them
would issue one unless you were a customer. I suppose now we could
have gone to Western Union, but we ended up with the less-than-
satisfactory solution of buying eight $500 money orders at Von's. The
downside was that we had to wait for them to clear once they were
deposited at home.

TJ, this is another "problem" that a credit line can help solve.
Several posters have suggested various alternatives, all of which are
time-consuming and complicated when compared to the simple act of
opening a credit line. Then, when you arrive at the casino, you
simply go to the cage, sign a marker for your desired withdrawal, and
head for the games with your pocket full. You could also write a
check, but I suggest that you not do so for two reasons.

First, the casino has just extended an interest-free loan to you.
And, though the rules do vary from place to place, you'll generally
have up to a month to re-pay it. Not only is this extraordinarily
convenient, but it costs you nothing. All other methods cost,
especially ATM and check advance methods.

Second (and on to your "problem"), when you have taken a marker, you
always have, right on premises, a place to put that excess cash.
Years ago, I started using 3K lines at several places. I now have
much larger lines at several places, one of them LVH. Not too long
ago, I took a marker there for 4K and then hit a $ RF during my first
session. The policy there is to pay off in cash unless the jackpot
exceeds 5K. No problem for me. When that session ended, I walked
back to the cage and paid off my initial marker. That's a nice bonus
feature of having a credit line.

I have been using a line of credit for years now. I find it to be extremely convenient. I only set them up at casinos that I plan to visit on a regular basis. I have read that setting up too many in a short amount of time could reflect negatively on your credit rating.
Only set up a line of credit if you are the type of person that has enough self control to not abuse it.
I don't know about Park Place, but Boyd Casinos require a separate line at each establishment. A quick phone call or e-mail to the Casino Cage would answer the question for you, they will also mail you out an application form on request. Some Casinos have them on their websites,

That business has relocated. They're now on Convention Center Drive about
half way between Paradise and the Strip, on the south side of the street. I
think the business is called Currency Exchange. I SHOULD know the name
since I've dealt with them many times and know the owner by first name

Do they accept a Canadian bank to do so? I've been thinking of doing
the same.

I have never used an ATM to deposit money but I was wondering if anyone here
has had experiences good or bad with this method. Is there a limit? I know
I tried to deposit cash at a drive up window at Wells Fargo and was told it
was over the limit. I had to go inside and stand in a very long line.
