Countdowns on machines

I noticed on top of some video poker machines that there is a countdown
when you start to play. Can anyone tell me exactly what is being
counted down.
Thanks from a new player.

It is usually counting down to an earned point. The slot club can tell you what each point is worth and how much play is required to earn a point.

Thank you A.P. Do you know if you stop in the middle of a
countdown and move to another machine if the countdown follows you
or the countdown starts from the beginning? If it does not follow
you then wouldn't this affect any comps or cashback and moving from
machine to machine would be a bad idea. I know that statisticly
moving means nothing but emotionally it feels better to move
sometimes when you are losing.
Thanks in advance for your help.

No, it doesn't. And the floor walkers love to pull 'em out for a hand pay,
a fill, paper out.... And if you say anything they look at you like a calf
looking at a new gate, and that you're speaking french.

This is exactly the casinos rationale. They DON'T want you changing
machines frequently as it drastically reduces your coin-in and
playing time. Therefore, they "punish you" by witholding points, if
you don't stay at a machine for a proscribed length of time.

They also, quite accurately, IMO, believe that you'll continue to
play until you've scored your point, rather than quit in the middle
of a countdown. This is another casino ploy to try and drain your
bankroll. In their view, of course, it's just a good business
practice.

No doubt if I had ownership equity in a casino, I would do the same
thing.

It depends on the Casino, some carry it over some don't. As has been said "if it is a buck a point (and many are) who cares" . If it is more check with the slot club or floorperson.

At Harrahs and Showboat (and now, most likely at Caesars and Bally's),
it is $10 for a point. And I don't think the fractional points carry
over when you change a machine.

Floorpersons are clueless about these things. And how do you "check
with the slot club"?

You go to the slot club and ask them about partial points on machines.
