First of all, my sincere apologies to Steve for the tardiness of this
post. The conversation was a bit over a week ago, and I've been
averaging nearly 16-hour workdays since then.
I was at Greektown getting my a$$ handed to me - again! - on
PickEm. He stopped by for a chat, and had some very interesting
things to say.
They're debating running another VP tournament, with an interesting
twist. Sounds like it'll be similar to the last one they did - play
like the devil for a limited number of minutes and top scores cash.
But there would be a "finals" round this time, with the top
qualifiers drawing for opponents in head-to-head elimination
matches. Good for us VP aficionados because we'd certainly be the
favorites in one-on-one matches (likely would significantly reduce
the need to hit a Royal). Good for Greektown because the finalists
would have to come back for the playoffs. He wants some input from
us, so fire away!
He also said that he snuck some NSUD in the bartops at the big
circular bar downstairs. Told me that it was there in quarters AND
dollars, but it's a mixed bag so check your machine carefully before
you play. I checked 4 machines, all the rest were in use, and did
find NSUD in dollars on all of those. But the quarter games were all
stinkers, so maybe it wasn't done as he had requested or maybe I just
happened to check only the "bad" ones. Certainly, for dollars, the
upstairs bar is the better play because there's a progressive in
place for the same or better games.
Sadly, the Table Games folks have nixed the idea of hooking up with
the Ultimate Blackjack Tour to run tournaments. There's a number of
reasons, the most obvious of which is that they've got their hands
full with all the construction going on. Perhaps after the hotel is
done, they'll have the rooms for the myriad of players and UBT staff
and the issue can be reconsidered. It is a shame, though, blackjack
tournaments are picking up steam and nobody in the area is hopping on
the bandwagon.
