Conundrum

For all hands on the first 3 levels, I've got something like $1075.
Then on the top level, I get dealt trip 8s (no wilds). I realize that
one option is to throw them away, in order to minimize my chances of
winning more than $1200, the level at which the IRS would be notified.

Stu, if you were that concerned about tax forms, why didn't you just keep the trip eights and the other 2 discards on 3 lines and keep the 3 eights and one discard on the other two? That would have given you $1075 (previous 3 lines) plus 5 * 5 * 8 * $0.25 or $50 for a total of $1125 for a minimum and $1185 for a maximum ( if you fill in 2 quads).

You have to make the same holding on all 5 hands. But the idea of
holding the trips plus one kicker for the top level is wonderful. It
restores my faith in math (and my lack of faith in everything else).
